Although the manga and anime series of “Attack on Titan” have concluded, the somber franchise continues to find innovative ways to stay relevant in the public spotlight. Notably, creator Hajime Isayama’s passion for saunas has been quite evident throughout his work. In fact, he has gone as far as incorporating some of his main characters into scenes set in saunas. With dreams of opening a sauna himself one day, Isayama is now collaborating with projects that attempt to reimagine “The Rumbling” within the warm settings of saunas.
From June 21st to August 17th, Tokyo’s Monster Work & Sauna is teaming up with “Attack on Titan” starting today. This unique collaboration isn’t just offering exclusive merchandise such as Colossal Titan sauna hats, but also varying temperatures inspired by different titans. To add to the experience, the saunas will play the anime’s soundtrack and emit a Titan roar when it gets hotter. Although the collaboration hasn’t been confirmed for North America yet, let’s hope that sauna lovers in the West can someday immerse themselves in the heat of the Rumbling in a secure setting.
Attack on Saunas
Previously, Hajime Isayama expressed his desire to not only have a personal sauna but to build the best one ever. This ambition seems plausible given that he often illustrates his characters relaxing in saunas after setting aside their three-dimensional maneuver gear. Although Isayama’s dream sauna is yet to materialize, considering his recent silence on new manga projects following the conclusion of Attack on Titan, it seems a warm and welcoming establishment could be next in line for him.
Fortunately, Isayama isn’t shy about revisiting the anime world that has grown into one of the largest in its medium lately. Although he hasn’t verified plans for a sequel or spin-off for Attack on Titan, Hajime did revisit the past of Captain Levi through the short story Attack on Titan: Bad Boy. Instead of depicting Levi battling Titans, this grim narrative traced the future Scout Regiment captain’s hardships as a young child, shaping him into the character that anime fans would eventually adore.
Currently, the future of the “Attack on Titan” anime is uncertain and it’s too early to consider remaking the series. However, there’s a compelling spin-off story titled “Attack on Titan: Before The Fall” written by Ryo Suzukaze, which takes place 70 years before the main storyline. This side tale has the potential to become a mini-series or even a full-length film, so here’s hoping we get to watch this unique take on the Titans in the future.
