Aubrey Plaza’s Heartbreaking Return Will Make You Cry

Aubrey Plaza is stepping back into the spotlight at the Cannes Film Festival 2025.

Previously from “The White Lotus,” the actress appeared at a showing of her movie “Honey Don’t!” in a French city on May 23, half a year following the tragic suicide of her husband, Jeff Baena, who was 47 years old.

For the event, where Aubrey made her initial red carpet appearance since the director’s passing on January 3rd, she captivated in a long, translucent white dress adorned with vibrant beadwork all over. To complete her look, the 40-year-old styled her rich brown hair and added dangling earrings, statement heels, and other accessories.

As an ardent fan, I can’t help but share that Aubrey wasn’t just sauntering down the legendary red carpet by herself; instead, she was flanked by her fellow cast members from the film, including the radiant Margaret Qualley, the hilarious Charlie Day, and the esteemed director of the detective comedy, Ethan Coen. What a sight to behold!

Before gracing Cannes, I, a devoted follower, had been maintaining a quiet presence following the heartbreaking demise of Jeff. Yet, an exception was made for the Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special in February. That night, I stepped into the limelight to introduce the electrifying duo of Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard as they delivered a stirring rendition of Sinéad O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2 U.”

In her brief appearance, I paid homage to my husband, Jeff – the man I tied the knot with in 2021, following almost a decade of shared journey – by donning a tie-dye shirt as a symbolic gesture acknowledging one of his pastimes that emerged during the pandemic era.

Undeniably, the “My Old Man” star is simply one of Jeff’s numerous cherished individuals who have paid tribute to his enduring legacy. Following his demise, associates and coworkers including Molly Shannon, Dane DeHaan, Allison Brie, and Adam Pally have all reminisced about the profound influence he left behind.

On Instagram on Jan. 5, Adam stated that Jeff Baena was a kind-hearted boy of Jewish descent from Miami. He described him as someone who worked together, guided others, and was the most tenacious basketball player, despite having an unattractive shooting style.

Remarking on his exceptional skills as a “director with an unerring sense of style and creativity,” the actor from Happy Endings stated, “Jeff aimed for sincerity in his direction. Nothing he created could ever seem insincere, artificial or out of place – a testament to Jeff’s genuine character.
