This week, James Cameron made a comeback, albeit virtually from New Zealand, by revealing the initial footage of “Avatar: Fire and Ash” at CinemaCon. Set to be released in December as a significant addition to the series, the third installment has already garnered positive feedback from exhibitors who were captivated by its stunning visuals and grandeur. Zoe Saldaña herself made an appearance to present a clip, generating excitement about the introduction of two new Na’vi tribes and a more profound emotional arc for Jake and Neytiri (a reminder that these are their names if you happened to forget).
Although this display was quite impressive, it raises an enduring query that has puzzled the Avatar series for more than a decade: How can a series accumulate such vast wealth and then seemingly disappear from popular discourse immediately after leaving cinemas?
