Avengers: Doomsday Casting Announcement Is Missing a Spider-Man (For Now)

It’s peculiar that Spider-Man is absent from the lineup of actors returning in “Avengers: Doomsday,” as Marvel Studios has been revealing cast members who will reprise their roles, creating a roster nearly as impressive as that of “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.” With the success of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “Deadpool & Wolverine,” fans are excited to see Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Hugh Jackman revisit their legendary roles. Given that “Avengers: Doomsday” has already secured several X-Men stars like Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, it seemed plausible that one of the Spider-Man actors would also be included. However, for the moment, this seems unlikely.

In the recent announcement regarding the cast for Avengers: Doomsday, neither Tobey Maguire nor Andrew Garfield were mentioned. This comes after their unexpected roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is part of Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. In this movie, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men joined forces with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to take down the Green Goblin, alongside Electro, Sandman, and Lizard. This collaboration was a hit with fans and contributed significantly to the box office success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Given this success, it was expected that Marvel Studios would want to continue this trend in their next big Avengers production. It’s possible that Marvel is saving some major surprises for when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters next year, much like they kept the involvement of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield under wraps in No Way Home.

I was absolutely thrilled to witness the gathering of the original X-Men stars like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming, and Kelsey Grammar, not forgetting Channing Tatum who brought Gambit to life in Deadpool & Wolverine. To complete the star-studded lineup of Avengers: Doomsday, members from the Avengers, Thunderbolts, and Fantastic Four joined in. The legendary Robert Downey Jr., among others, took on the role of Doctor Doom, a renowned Marvel villain.

It’s been confirmed that the production of “Avengers: Doomsday” has begun, aligning with earlier reports about the project’s production schedule from February, when it was suggested that spring would be the start date. After directors Joe and Anthony Russo finish filming “Doomsday,” it appears the plan is for a brief hiatus before resuming work for “Secret Wars” at a later time. Anthony Mackie, who continues his role as Captain America in these films, has mentioned that “Secret Wars” will be in production the following summer.

During both summers, we’ll film Avengers: Doomsday, followed by the sequel. It means we have a lot of action-packed projects coming up,” Mackie explained.

The movies “Avengers: Final Doom” and “Avengers: Secret Battles” bring an end to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Storyline. These films see the MCU’s diverse superheroes facing off against Robert Downey Jr.’s character, Doctor Doom. The first movie is set to be released in cinemas in May 2026, while the second one premieres a year later, in May 2027.
