As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the upcoming release of Avowed from Obsidian Entertainment has certainly piqued my interest. Having played and enjoyed their previous works like Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny, I am eager to delve back into their richly imagined world of Eora.

The game “Avowed” is an upcoming role-playing title being developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios. It takes place within the same universe as the Pillars of Eternity series, allowing players to customize their character and face consequences – both good and complex – based on their choices in the region known as the Living Lands. This style of gameplay is reminiscent of previous titles from Obsidian Entertainment.

Avowed: Edition differences
The game titled “Avowed” is scheduled to debut on February 18, 2025, and will be accessible on Xbox Series X|S, as well as Windows PC via Steam, Xbox App, and for the first time (for non-Activision Blizzard games) through Battle.net. Avowed on Xbox Game Pass
Through substantial investments and purchases, the Xbox’s lineup of exclusive games is thriving, with numerous titles being regularly launched at an even pace.
2025 marks the start of Xbox’s first-party lineup, but it won’t be a solo act. Alongside it, you’ll find id Software’s DOOM: The Dark Ages, Playground Games’ Fable, and Compulsion Games’ South of Midnight, all set to debut at various points during that year.
In 2018, Microsoft purchased Obsidian Entertainment, a studio that has since developed Xbox games like Grounded and Pentiment. Similar to these other in-house titles, the Standard Edition of Avowed is accessible through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass at no additional cost. So, as long as you maintain your subscription, you’ll be able to continue playing it.
This feature comes with a cool bonus too – by paying only $25, you can secure the Premium Edition and start playing it ahead of time. Since you already have the Standard Edition thanks to your Game Pass subscription, all you need to do is purchase the upgrade for the Premium Edition, and you’re set!
Notably, Avowed will debut on Battle.net, making it accessible not only via the standard route but also through the Game Pass using Blizzard Entertainment’s launcher or the Xbox PC app. This means that if you have a Battle.net account where you enjoy titles such as Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft, you can utilize your existing balance to purchase the Premium Edition Upgrade and subsequently play Avowed ahead of its official release through PC Game Pass.
