Avowed Won’t Support 60 FPS on Xbox Series X/S

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must admit, it’s disheartening to see yet another highly anticipated Xbox exclusive fall short of delivering a 60 FPS frame rate at launch. I remember the glory days when 30 FPS was the norm and we were thrilled with it, but times have changed, and expectations have evolved.

As an enthusiastic gamer, I’ve been eagerly anticipating some highly anticipated first-party Xbox games like Redfall, Starfield, and Forza Motorsport. However, over the past few months, these titles have sparked quite a stir due to their inability to run at a 60 FPS frame rate on the Xbox Series X/S. Now, it appears yet another game has joined this list of contentious releases.

I was thrilled to hear Matt Hansen, the art director for Avowed, share some insights on the Iron Lords podcast about their upcoming action RPG. He mentioned that sadly, we won’t be able to enjoy 60 FPS on consoles with this game. However, he emphasized that as a single-player, first-person title, maintaining a consistent 30 FPS is better suited for the game and the development team, ensuring an optimal experience for us fans.

“As a gamer myself, I can say that a first-person, solo adventure doesn’t always require the 60 frames per second. This freedom lets us really amp up the visual effects, lighting, and more, making the game juicier and more immersive.”

“We made the decision earlier on, one that we’ve been very satisfied with. Our game runs smoothly given its visual complexity, which was a key aim from the start.”

Microsoft consistently emphasizes that Xbox Series X/S are equipped to smoothly deliver 60 FPS gameplay (and possibly more), but it’s unfortunate that even initial Microsoft games were unable to meet this mark at launch, which may cause some disappointment among players. Whether or not the upcoming game, Avowed, will provide a 60 FPS option in a future update – as other first-party Microsoft titles have done – is yet to be determined.

The game titled “Avowed” is set to be released on February 11, 2025, available on both Xbox Series X/S and PC platforms. To get a glimpse of the latest gameplay, click here.
