About
An adventure in a vibrant, character-filled world where gameplay is based on rhythm. Featuring intricate pixel art and lively animations. Dive into this captivating universe, ready to shake things up!
Story
At nightfall, you step into a different realm, taking on the identity of Abby, a young girl. Alongside her brother Michael, you’ll explore uncharted territories, navigate complex character dynamics, and make choices that impact the story’s outcome. You possess the ability to nurture or corrupt this world. Be cautious, for your presence has attracted something ominous…
In contrast to numerous indie RPGs boasting as fresh, offbeat games, Away From Home blends elements from exceptional role-playing games. The characters in this game are richly emotional and allow for a deep sense of empathy. And let me remind you, this world has a calling for you.
Gameplay
Picture a fusion of a Japanese Role-Playing Game (JRPG) and a Rhythm game. This unique blend resembles Earthbound in terms of exploring its world, engaging in dialogues, and moving around. However, when it comes to missions and combats, it incorporates rhythm games that correspond to the specific events. To enhance the emotional depth, characters have genuine voices. The standout feature is an abundance of animations, which make the characters appear lively. As you progress through the game, you’ll grow more familiar with these vibrant inhabitants.
There’s always a plethora of activities in various locations, brimming with extensive side missions that reward you with new abilities and items, plus unpredictable, chance-based incidents. The design of these side quests and town events draws inspiration from engaging games like Yakuza 0!
This expansive universe requires a significant amount of time to explore thoroughly, with multiple paths available that enhance the game’s replay value. These diverse routes offer crucial decisions that can dramatically alter the game’s outcome, as well as unique encounters with items and battles that might not be accessible if different choices were made earlier.
Battles
In this game, the fights are presented from a third-person perspective, featuring a rhythmic mechanic. The user interface includes buttons for attacking, using special abilities, managing items, and blocking. By coordinating your actions with the music’s rhythm using arrow keys, you can gain action points for powerful attacks when you press a key in time with the beat.
For the first time, the battle system equally emphasizes both skill and strategy. You’ll need to employ your timing skills to execute choices and hits at the right moment. At the same time, strategic thinking will be crucial for countering opponents’ special attacks. For instance, if you encounter an opponent with a poison ability, you’ll want to utilize anti-poison items from your inventory. Your planning and quick action will be thoroughly tested.
In this game, you’ll find that certain items become accessible upon completing side missions. These items can then be bought at shops. Some of these items are incredibly potent, and you can only get them once. To prepare for battle effectively, choose three items to carry with you at all times. Additionally, as you progress, you’ll unlock special moves that complement your weaponry collection nicely.
In this game, the fights are richly adorned with stunning visual effects, ensuring an engaging experience. Unlike conventional role-playing games where events are described to you, here you’ll directly see a variety of spectacles such as rainfall of confetti or bursts of lightning!
Enemies also possess unique attacks, which can plunge you into intense quick-response scenarios adorned with intricate pixel art. In these instances, you’re required to press the specified keys promptly. If you miss the timing, your health will significantly decrease.
Art
In this game, we boast a team of gifted artists, among whom is myself. We breathe life into the game with visually captivating elements. Our emphasis lies in both expressive facial features and intricate animation details. Countless individuals have poured their passion into this endeavor. Certain animations within the game required more than 100 hours of work, and I’m thrilled for you to witness them!
In our creation, we aim for an emotional depth akin to that found in games such as Mother 3. Given the high-quality graphics in
