Currently, it’s uncertain what lies ahead for Dragon Ball, as Dragon Ball Daima’s anime wrapped up earlier this year and the manga remains undecided. Previous interviews with the creators hint that Shueisha aims to keep the franchise running for years to come. The uncertainty surrounding the Dragon Ball Super manga, following Akira Toriyama’s latest chapter release, may signal some unfavorable developments for Son Goku and his team, the Z-Fighters. Artist Toyotaro, who is expected to carry on the shonen franchise, is set to debut a new manga which could potentially reduce his focus on the Saiyans.
At the Japan Expo Paris convention, it was confirmed that Toyotaro is developing a fresh manga series in collaboration with Dragon Ball editor Kazuhiko Torishima. Regrettably for Dragon Ball fans, this new manga will be an entirely original work by Toyotaro, so we probably won’t see it intersecting with Goku’s world. At the panel, they discussed Toyotaro’s first original manga project and Kazuhiko shared his refined skills that he has acquired throughout his career.
Toyotaro’s Wild Beginnings
Toyotaro, who later worked on “Dragon Ball Super,” began his career in the manga world through an unconventional path. He worked on a fan project called “Dragon Ball AF.” This experience not only boosted his portfolio but also earned him the opportunity to work on “Dragon Ball Heroes,” a spin-off manga that reintroduces characters from the popular shonen series’ past. With this assignment, Toyotaro was eventually promoted to work on the ongoing series where he has been ever since.
Throughout the publication of “Dragon Ball Super” manga, Toyotaro handled the artwork and collaborated closely with Toriyama on creating storylines for arcs like the Moro Arc and Granolah The Survivor Arc. If Toyotaro were to create new chapters for this iconic shonen series in the future, it would be intriguing to observe whether he’d steer the course independently or require assistance to shape the destiny of the Z-Fighters.
Fans are yet to hear any updates from Toei Animation regarding the animation of battles against Moro, The Heaters, and Granolah in the Dragon Ball Super anime. Since they’re busy with the voyage of the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece, it remains unclear when we might see the Z-Fighters again on screen. After the original Dragon Ball Super series ended with the Tournament of Power, a sequel series started, featuring two animated films that expanded the shonen universe and added numerous new characters, both heroes and villains.
