BAFTA announces Breakthrough list for 2024 including Taskmaster and Baby Reindeer stars

As a seasoned film enthusiast with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that this year’s BAFTA Breakthrough participants have truly caught my attention. Having had the privilege to watch countless films and documentaries from around the world, I can confidently say that these up-and-coming talents are ones to keep an eye on.

2021’s BAFTA Breakthrough honorees have been unveiled, showcasing the rising talents who are creating a splash across the realms of film, TV, and video games – potentially reaching great fame in the future.

Yearly program offers emerging talents a chance to connect with established professionals and gain access to growth-enhancing experiences, such as networking sessions with well-known figures, aiming to propel them towards greater achievements in the challenging world of entertainment.

In the most recent group, we have a total of 43 individuals, with 21 coming from the United Kingdom, 13 hailing from the United States, and another 9 from India. Each member brings their individual abilities and viewpoints to this project, making it a diverse and enriching experience for all involved.

As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that the UK line-up boasts none other than Mawaan Rizwan, known for his stellar roles in Taskmaster and Doctor Who. This year, he bagged a BAFTA award for his outstanding performance in Juice, a critically acclaimed BBC sitcom that he himself created.

Notable figures among them are Lee Getty and Kyla Harris, creators of “We Might Regret This”; Daf James, creator of “Lost Boys and Fairies”; Lauren Sequeira, creator of “Domino Day”; and Jennifer English, an actor in “Baldur’s Gate 3”.

Luna Carmoon, Clair Titley, Alice Russell, Luned Tonderai, Otto Baxter, Beth Park, Sophie Knowles, Poulomi Basu, Harry Gilbert, Cobbie Yates, Shahnaz Dulaimy, Frederick Hoffman, Rochelle Newman, and Loran Dunn make up the rest of the group.

Simultaneously on the other side of the ocean, the BAFTA Breakthrough U.S. roster features Nava Mau, the standout performer from Baby Reindeer, who received an Emmy nomination for her heartfelt portrayal of Teri in the dark comedy-drama.

Angela Walker Patton, daughters Natalie Rae, Elaine Gómez, Erica Tremblay, Hanna Park, Jih-E Peng, Joy Ngiaw, Juliana Hoffpauir, Karrie Shirou Shao, Nafisa Kaptownwala, Nicole He (from The Crush House), and Sean Wang.

Currently, the individuals taking part in BAFTA Breakthrough India are Abhinav Chokhavatia (Down and Out), Christo Tomy (Curry & Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case), Deepa Bhatia (First Act), Dhiman Karmakar (Amar Singh Chamkila), Jaydeep Sarkar (Rainbow Rishta), Monisha Thyagarajan (The Hunt for Veerappan), Neeraj Kumar (Artifice: War Tactics), Sindhu Sreenivasa Murthy (Aachar & Co) and Varun Grover (All India Rank).
