Bake Off’s Alison Hammond comforts John with hilarious Strictly advice

As a seasoned cinephile with an extensive background in baking and emotional support, I must say that tonight’s episode of The Great British Bake Off was a rollercoaster ride of emotions, much like a well-kneaded dough before it hits the oven.

Tonight’s episode of The Great British Bake Off featured Bread Week, and it soon became evident why this is often regarded as one of the most challenging weeks among all.

Tonight’s show featured the ten remaining bakers as they took on the task of creating savory buns guided by Paul Hollywood’s recipe, culminating in crafting delightful surprises within bread horns.

John felt quite moved when, despite the bakers’ best efforts, one of his baked goods didn’t turn out as planned.

As there were just 15 minutes remaining on the clock, John found himself puzzled by his bagels. Noting that they typically “rise” instead of sinking while he’s made them in the past, John pointed out that the usual behavior for these bagels is to “float”.

As I was busy crafting my daily batch of bagels, Alison stopped by my station today. “I’ve been making these for years, and they never sink,” I shared with a sigh, “but today, something just isn’t right.” The rising process has always been second nature to me, but today, my bagels are refusing to cooperate. I make these delightful treats day in and day out, yet today, it seems the dough gods have turned their backs on me.

While Alison was consoling him, John admitted that he had been having a tough week. Afterward, he asked if it was alright for him to leave the tent for a moment to gather his thoughts.

Beyond their tent, Alison was still consoling John and shared some helpful tips she had received from professional dancer Aljaž Škorjanec on Strictly Come Dancing.

She shared: “During Strictly, it was clear I was advancing in the dance-off. However, Aljaž cautioned me by saying, ‘She might still trip.’ So, here I am, telling you that despite the possibility of someone stumbling, keep your head high and have fun. Laugh a little because someone could potentially slip up!

As the moment arrived, I was ready to showcase my masterpiece, the ‘Horn of Pride’ Cornucopia. The anticipation was high as Prue Leith admired the visual appeal of my creation. However, Paul Hollywood, a discerning eye in culinary matters, pointed out that my bagels didn’t quite rise to their full potential.

In other words, John said they had taken on water, Hollywood suggested that he might have over-fermented them.

After that, it was finally time for us to savor the rolls! “A bit dense,” remarked Leith as Hollywood added, “It seems it could use more lemon. More rising time and a unique design would’ve made it even better.

After telling the judges to not “even bother” trying the bagels, Hollywood agreed, saying, “You can’t even eat that”. Leith stayed positive, though, noting that John had made an “impressive centrepiece”, but it was “a pity” about the bagels.

After his time in the tent, John commented, “Things turned out just as I anticipated.” He added, “While I was pleased with the outcome, I had already accepted that today wouldn’t be my lucky day.

The Great British Bake continues on Tuesday 15th October at 8pm on Channel 4.
