Typically, Baki’s antagonist, the formidable Yujiro Hanma, engages in discussions with a newly established U.S. administration, as the West endeavors to negotiate peace with the most potent being known. In a recent manga installment, current President Donald Trump and Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk held talks with Yujiro, an event that sparked widespread internet buzz. This encounter is not the first instance of Baki Hanma dipping into politics; both the original comic series and animated adaptation have incorporated real-life political figures. Fortunately, we’re eager to shine a light on some of the most prominent figures within this mix.
Previously, Baki Hanma made his latest appearance on our screens through Netflix and TMS Entertainment. In the “Father-Son War”, Baki fulfilled his top ambition by defeating his father in hand-to-hand combat, earning him the title of the world’s strongest being. Although it remains uncertain when we will witness a gathering of Yujiro, Trump, and Musk, Netflix is now developing a new season of the anime to be released at a later date.
George W. Bush
It’s possible that the U.S. President who makes the most appearances in the anime “Baki The Grappler” is a character named George Bosch, modeled after the 43rd President, George W. Bush. In one instance, Bosch is portrayed as a chauffeur for Yujiro Hanma, the Ogre, who criticized his driving and leadership skills by saying he ran the country as poorly as he drove. Later in the series, Baki takes it upon himself to abduct President Bosch, intending to ensure that he faces prison time fighting against Mr. Unchained, or Biscuit Oliva. Fortunately, the fictional president manages to endure the Hanma bloodline and ultimately passes on his presidency to another character in the series.
Barack Obama
In the anime version, the character portraying Obama is referred to as “Barack Ozma.” This fictional Obama sought to negotiate peace with an Ogre, aiming to showcase the strength of Yujiro in the process. A feat only Baki’s father could accomplish, Yujiro demonstrated his power by shattering a glass table using just his knuckle and transforming a piece of coal into a diamond with a single hand. Unsurprisingly, Ozma was left amazed and agreed to sign a friendship treaty with Yujiro to prevent any future conflicts.
Hilary Clinton
Indeed, despite Hillary Clinton not ultimately becoming President, the creator of “Baki,” Keisuke Itagaki, decided to feature her in the manga regardless, portraying her as a character named “Hinary.” In the storyline, she has an explicit encounter with Yujiro Hanma while maintaining a veil over her past before losing the presidential run. It’s worth mentioning that this scene, if adapted into the anime, would likely need significant censorship due to its graphic nature, as Itagaki took creative liberties in developing this particular plot point.
Donald Trump
After Donald Trump won the U.S. Presidency in 2016, Itagaki utilized this occasion to arrange a meeting between the incumbent President and Ozma to discuss the enigmatic situation involving Yujiro Hanma. In the series, Trump is referred to as “Tramp,” and this nickname was fitting for his first encounter with the Ogre. This meeting occurred at the start of their relationship, and Trump made two more appearances in the manga – one during President Biden’s initial days in office and another in the most recent chapter due to his reelection and subsequent second term.
Joe Biden
In the anime “Baki The Grappler,” the 46th President of the United States was referred to as “Bidem.” This president paid homage to Yujiro Hanma after a conflict between “Tramp” and Yujiro, during which the previous president experienced the fury of the Ogre. Following this appearance, both “Tramp” and Elon Musk, also known as “Elom,” appeared in “Baki Rahen,” the latest arc centering on Baki and his brother Jack Hanma. Since creator Keisuke Itagaki shows no signs of concluding the series after its long run, it’s likely that more real-life figures will appear in future installments based on past trends.
