Ballerina Poster Reveals Intense New Look at Ana de Armas in John Wick Spinoff

As a movie enthusiast with a penchant for action-packed films and a soft spot for ballerinas, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming release of “Ballerina” in 2025. The poster featuring Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro, an assassin ballet dancer, is simply captivating!

Lionsgate recently unveiled a sneak peek at Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro in the movie “Ballerina,” set to release in June 2025. This preview was shown during CCXP, an annual pop culture event held in São Paulo, Brazil that covers movies, TV shows, anime, and various other topics. Notably, there are many big panels scheduled over the weekend for projects like “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” and it’s not just this upcoming film that is receiving attention.

A number of actors from the movie “Ballerina” were present, among them Ana de Armas and Norman Reedus, known for his role in “The Walking Dead”. This film, directed by Derek Kolstad, serves as a spinoff from the John Wick series, telling the story of Eve, a ballet-trained assassin with roots in the Ruska Roma tradition who is bent on avenging her murdered family.

The character known as The Ballerina was first introduced in “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum”. This role was initially played by Unity Phelan, a principal dancer from the New York Ballet. However, given that she doesn’t have acting experience suitable for a major film franchise like John Wick, the part was subsequently recast. It was then that Ana de Armas became a strong contender for the role.

As a movie buff excitedly counting down the days to the release of “Ballerina”, I can’t help but notice an intriguing connection to the world of John Wick. The first trailer hints that this film unfolds amidst the happenings of John Wick 3, placing its timeline in 2014. Yet, it delves deeper into the tapestry of the John Wick universe by shedding light on a captivating prequel event – the initial encounter between Eve and Winston.

In this movie, we have Anjelica Huston, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Gabriel Byrne, and the late Lance Reddick joining forces alongside Ian McShane and Keanu Reeves. Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski are the producers of this film, which is being produced by Thunder Road Films / 87Eleven Entertainment.

How Ana de Armas Convinced Keanu Reeves to Join Ballerina

Armas managed to persuade Reeves to join the project because they had previously worked together in the 2015 film “Knock Knock”. Since 2014, he has played the main character in the John Wick series and has produced several successful films at the box office, including “John Wick: Chapter 4” from 2023. As Iwanyk, one of the producers of John Wick explained to MovieWeb, Armas is a big fan of the franchise. At that time, it wasn’t certain if Reeves would be in the movie.

After discussing the prospect of having Keanu in the film, she, who had known Keanu for quite some time and had previously assisted in reaching out to him, enthusiastically encouraged him by saying something like, “Let’s make this happen, it’ll be a blast!” This certainly played a role in getting Keanu interested in the movie. Given that Keanu is a big fan of Ana, I believe he became quite eager about the film once Ana joined the cast.
