As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the expansion of the Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey universe, colloquially known as the ‘Pooh-niverse’, following the success of its initial installment and subsequent sequel. The recent unveiling of the Bambi: The Reckoning trailer has only added to my anticipation, as it’s officially titled.
This time, we’re revisiting the tale originally penned by Felix Salten, “Bambi: A Life in the Forest,” which inspired the beloved Disney animated film. However, this version strays far from its original charm and has been transformed into a chilling horror narrative. In this retelling, the story centers around Xana (Roxanne McKee) and her son Benji (Tom Mulheron), who survive a car accident only to be pursued by the terrifying Bambi, a deer that has become a ruthless killing machine in its quest for vengeance. After the loss of its mother, Bambi has turned into a relentless force, targeting anyone who crosses its path.
Rhys Frake-Waterfield, known for directing the spooky Winnie the Pooh films, is now serving as producer, while Dan Allen takes on directing duties based on a script penned by Rhys Warrington. The talented cast includes Nicola Wright, Samira Mighty, Alex Cooke, Russell Geoffrey Banks, Catherine Adams, Big Tobz, Adrian Relph, Joseph Greenwood, Luke Cavendish, and Ewan Borthwick. Preliminary trailers suggest a noticeable improvement in the special effects budget.
Back in January, a chilling take on Peter Pan sent shivers down my spine, yet it seemed to have flown under many radars. But fear not, fellow movie enthusiasts! This year promises thrilling tales like “Pinocchio: Unstrung” and the grand finale, “Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble”.
Rumors swirl about upcoming movies in the pipeline, such as “Awakening Sleeping Beauty”, “Snow White Returns”, “Tigger Returns”, “Alice the Mad”, and the ominous-sounding “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3”. There’s even an unnamed Mary Poppins film on the horizon! Exciting times ahead for us story connoisseurs!
