Bandai Namco trademarks Once Upon a KATAMARI, Gekishin Squadra

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got some exciting news! On February 27th, Bandai Namco Entertainment dropped a hint by filing trademarks for “Once Upon a KATAMARI” over in Europe. And if that wasn’t enough, they also filed for “Gekishin Squadra” on Valentine’s Day, both in the United States and Europe! Could this be a sign of new games coming our way? Only time will tell!

The Japanese publishing company, Bandai Namco, is known for registering game titles prior to official unveilings. For instance, Gematsu found the trademarks “Time Stranger” (which later became Digimon Story: Time Stranger), “Nightreign” (Elden Ring Nightreign), and “Battle Destiny” (Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Battle Destiny Remastered) before their official announcements. Other examples include “Operation Memories” (SPYxANYA: Operation Memories), “Fractured Daydream” (Sword Art Online: Fractured Daydream), and “Shadow Labyrinth.” Bandai Namco also trademarked the titles Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn and We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie before their respective announcements.

In contrast to the recent releases of the “Katamari” series being remastered versions of older games, “Once Upon a KATAMARI” might mark a fresh start, as it could be the first new installment since “Touch My Katamari” for the PS Vita in 2011.

Regarding “Gekishin Squadra,” though the title might remind you of “Dragon Ball Z II: Gekishin Freeza, released for Famicom in 1991,” it’s important to note that “Gekishin” doesn’t exclusively refer to Dragon Ball. Therefore, its connection or meaning beyond this series is yet to be determined.

Regarding Bandai Namco, it’s worth noting that there are at least two upcoming titles whose specific nature remains undisclosed: “Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree” and “case. mirage.” These as-yet-unveiled projects are among their more recent trademarks.
