Barbarella: Dynamite Announces New Series Ahead of Sydney Sweeney's Feature Film

As a longtime fan of science fiction and fantasy, I can’t contain my excitement for Dynamite Entertainment’s new Barbarella comic book series! The announcement that Blake Northcott and Anna Morozova are taking the helm for this iconic character is truly thrilling. Northcott’s extensive experience working on franchised properties and successful novels, combined with Morozova’s debut into the American market, promises an unforgettable cosmic adventure.

As a longtime fan of science fiction and comic books, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with fellow enthusiasts. This autumn will bring us a fresh take on a classic character: Barbarella! In anticipation of an upcoming feature film featuring Sydney Sweeney, Dynamite Entertainment has announced the launch of a new Barbarella comic book series.

Writer Blake Northcott noted, “A small number of sci-fi/fantasy characters have remained popular for over several decades. Among them are Barbarella, Leia, Ripley, and Sarah Connor. The chance to pen a tale about Barbarella is an extraordinary opportunity – how could I refuse?”

In an exciting turn of events, Barbarella’s adventures will take fans to uncharted celestial bodies. Along the way, they’ll encounter fresh faces as well as familiar ones, including Vix who was recently introduced. The focus of this series is to pay homage to Barbarella’s creator and previous interpreters. Northcott aims to recreate the mood and aesthetic reminiscent of the 1960s comics by Jean-Claude Forest and the movie.

What is Dynamite Comics’ Barbarella series about?

After rescuing the universe once more, Barb finds tranquility with her extraordinary alien friend Vix. However, Barbarella being Barbarella, she soon realizes not all pleasure planets are idyllic. Some are surprisingly bizarre!

Simultaneously, in a distant corner of the galaxy, Earth’s oldest and revered colony displays an unusual disturbance. Furthermore, Barbarella’s versatile abilities will be indispensable throughout the universe, and she is bound to encounter deceitful characters during her journey.

Below, you’ll discover the cover art and interior illustrations for issue #1 of Barbarella, set to be published in October. Three talented artists, Joseph Michael Linsner, Annie Wu, and Richard Pace, have collaborated on this project. Additionally, cosplayer Rachel Hollon brings Barbarella to life through her captivating portrayal.
