It turns out that there was an amusing mix-up during Adult Swim’s Toonami broadcast, where Barney unexpectedly invaded the anime block. With Toonami ringing in the new year by introducing a classic show to its lineup for the first time in over two decades, fans were already captivated. However, what they got was much more than just anime as Barney’s World, which typically airs on Cartoon Network, made an unexpected late-night appearance in Toonami. This resulted in a highly amusing and unforeseen crossover between the two children’s entertainment entities.
During the airing of Mashle: Magic and Muscles on Toonami, an unusual advertisement for Barney’s World, currently running on Cartoon Network, popped up. This promo stood out starkly against the content of both franchises, creating quite a spectacle. It was merely a brief commercial that slipped through before things went back to normal. Fortunately, it doesn’t seem to be a major issue with Toonami’s programming block on Adult Swim; instead, it was just a funny and unanticipated surprise. You can see it for yourself below.
So is Barney a #Toonami show now?

Toonami Schedule for Winter 2025
For the anime series scheduled to air on Adult Swim’s Toonami block during Saturday evenings, starting from Saturday, January 25th, here is their planned broadcast order (in Eastern Standard Time):
- 12:00AM – Mashle: Magic and Muscles
- 12:30AM – Invincible Fight Girl
- 1:00AM – Blue Exorcist
- 1:30AM – One Piece
- 2:00AM – Dragon Ball Z Kai
- 2:30AM – Naruto
- 3:00AM – Sailor Moon
Over the weekend, I’m thrilled to announce that Toonami has undergone a transformation with the inclusion of none other than “Sailor Moon”! It’s been over two decades since this iconic series graced Toonami, and now we have the uncut version from Viz Media! This comes after Sailor Moon made its comeback on Adult Swim as part of the Toonami Rewind block. Unfortunately, that short-lived block, which aired classic anime shows during some afternoons, has shut down due to further changes in Adult Swim and Cartoon Network’s schedule. But fear not, Sailor Moon fans! The series is now living on through the main Toonami schedule itself, making every episode feel like a reunion we never knew we needed!
What’s Next for Toonami in 2025?
Looking ahead into the new year, Toonami has plenty of exciting developments in store, especially in 2025 and beyond. Although many new programs are yet to be revealed at this point, there are also several beloved shows making a comeback. One such return is “My Adventures with Superman,” now in production for its third season. Among the confirmed additions, a new anime series from Cowboy Bebop’s creator Shinichiro Watanabe, titled “Lazarus,” is one to eagerly anticipate. Fans won’t have to wait too much longer for this intriguing new series.
The latest news indicates that the production of “Lazarus” is ongoing, with an anticipated release in April this year. The specific launch date hasn’t been disclosed as of now, but it’s confirmed that Chad Stahelski, known for directing “John Wick,” will be designing action scenes. Sola Entertainment is also involved in the production. The duration of “Lazarus” isn’t clear yet, but with its Spring debut drawing near, eager fans can expect more insights into this fresh anime project in the coming weeks. However, it’s unlikely that “Barney’s World” will be associated with it.
