Batman: Dark Patterns Miniseries Announced by DC

As a lifelong comic book fan, I am beyond thrilled about DC’s upcoming miniseries, Batman: Dark Patterns. Having grown up watching the Dark Knight grapple with Gotham City’s criminal underbelly, this series promises to delve deep into the heart of Batman’s mystery-solving prowess.

In a chilling turn of events, the Dark Knight of DC Comics is diving into a sinister new enigma. On Friday, it was officially unveiled that Batman: Dark Patterns, a gripping twelve-issue miniseries penned by Dan Watters (Coffin Bound, Nightwing) and illustrated by Hayden Sherman (Absolute Wonder Woman, Predator vs. Wolverine), is set to hit the shelves. The first issue, slated for release in December, will boast a primary cover by Sherman and an alternate cover by Stevan Subic.

Watters expressed his fascination for Batman’s peculiar nature in a statement. ‘Imagine a man cloaked as a massive, gothic bat, tackling crimes in a city shrouded in darkness, filled with black magicians, mad scientists, and timid, cowardly criminals.’ He has long dreamt of crafting a series of mystery novels that delve into this facet of the character – a figure lurking in the shadows of Gotham’s crumbling, ominous spires. After watching The Batman, his desire to write such stories was reinforced. Batman: Dark Patterns delves into the pulpiest elements of the Dark Knight’s storied history and offers readers a fresh perspective on the early days of DC’s enigmatic detective.

What Is Batman: Dark Patterns About?

The four-part comic book series titled “Batman: Dark Patterns” will delve into the early days of Batman’s presence in Gotham City, focusing on self-contained street-level mysteries that hold a timeless appeal. The inaugural story arc, “We Are Wounded,” unfolds as a chilling sequence of brutal murders that send ripples of fear across Gotham. Is this the work of a deranged serial killer, or are there darker forces at play? Over the course of the first three issues of “Batman: Dark Patterns, ” the Caped Crusader tirelessly investigates the mystery to prevent any further casualties.

Each case originates from Gotham and its inhabitants learning to cope with the atrocities they’ve endured in both recent and distant times – ranging from the Joker contaminating the water supply to the Falcone gang war. The criminals are fearful and superstitious… but isn’t it natural for an entire city to be fearful as well? Continued Watters, “The figure of Batman, a tormented savior cloaked in city lore, strives to instill hope in those who have lost it.
