During a DC Studios press gathering, co-head Peter Safran provided an update on “The Batman Part II”. It was disclosed that director Matt Reeves has yet to submit a finished script. At the event, Safran and fellow executive James Gunn discussed various forthcoming projects, including the continuation of the Batman Epic Crime Saga. Regarding “The Batman Part II”‘s development, Safran expressed continued excitement for the film and appreciated what they’ve read thus far.
James and I share the same enthusiasm for Matt Reeves’ concept of ‘The Batman Part II’. We’re just as excited about this movie as you are, and what we’ve read so far is quite promising, even though a full script hasn’t been submitted yet.”
At the event, Gunn and Safran reinforced that Robert Pattinson will not be linked to the broader DC Universe as Batman, ensuring Reeves’ series maintains its own unique continuity.
The Batman Sequel (Part II)
Initially announced, The Batman Sequel (Part II), now set for an October 2027 release, has faced several postponements along the way. Director Matt Reeves attributes these delays to the meticulous work on the script, emphasizing his commitment to making it as powerful as possible before filming begins. In a statement, Reeves hinted that he aims to commence shooting The Batman Sequel (Part II) sometime this year.
As Gunn and Safran wait for the final draft of the screenplay, there have been some positive hints about “The Batman Part II”. Recently, stars Andy Serkis and Pattinson have revealed that they are aware of the movie’s plot, suggesting that Reeves has a plan in place and is merely working on finishing the script. Similarly to Reeves, Pattinson mentioned that filming will commence at the end of this year.
The Reeves’ Batman series, including both the film The Batman and the spin-off TV show The Penguin, has received widespread praise from critics. Given this success, it’s understandable that Reeves isn’t hurrying with The Batman Part II; fans would be disappointed if the sequel didn’t meet the high standards set by its predecessors. However, the lack of a completed script after such a long time might make some fans question the process, as it seems like the release of The Batman Part II is taking longer than expected. When Robert Pattinson was chosen to play Batman, the plan was for him to depict a novice Dark Knight at the start of his crime-fighting career. If The Batman Part II sticks to its current release date, Pattinson will be 41 years old by then; Ben Affleck was 44 when he first appeared as an older Batman in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Thankfully, it looks like “The Batman Part II” is set to start filming by the year’s end, providing some stability for the project. Director Matt Reeves still has ample time to complete the script since Robert Pattinson is currently engaged in Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey”, which is now being filmed. Here’s hoping that Reeves finishes writing soon to prevent any further delays for “The Batman Part II”. Fans are excitedly awaiting updates about what the filmmaker plans for the movie, especially who from the Batman universe will make an appearance.
