It appears that Electronic Arts (EA) is commencing the trial runs of their Battlefield Lab project. This initiative was first announced in February, and now they are sending out invitations via email to registered users for this test session, scheduled for two hours, and exclusively available on personal computers.
As reported by Insider Gaming, an email from EA states that the upcoming playtest will take place within a confined testing area. Under these conditions, players are forbidden from broadcasting or recording their gameplay experiences during this test phase. Furthermore, any discussions regarding the playtest have been strictly banned.
EA’s “Battlefield” Labs serves as a testing ground for the upcoming game in the series. Led by DICE, Motive, Ripple Effect, and Criterion, this platform is designed to experiment with and showcase exciting ideas and experiences directly to the players themselves.
The company has emphasized that individuals registering for Battlefield Labs and chosen for playtests can only participate under a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). Conversely, this arrangement gives Battlefield enthusiasts more influence over the game’s development, while also providing developers with feedback on different aspects of the game.
The upcoming “Battlefield” title is now being developed during its early preliminary stages, making it ripe for trials through “Battlefield” Labs. To initiate this process, initial testing will focus on essential combat and demolition features. As time progresses, further playtests will broaden the scope and collect player input regarding additional elements such as weapons, vehicles, and gadgets.
Of importance to mention: Invites for the playtests will only go out to approximately “a few thousand” gamers who sign up for Battlefield Labs, both in Europe and North America. However, there’s a possibility that we’ll extend this group to other regions in the future.
The CEO of Electronic Arts, Andrew Wilson, disclosed in February that the upcoming Battlefield title is being worked on and is aiming for a release before April 2026. This aligns with speculation from last year suggesting that the next Battlefield game could potentially drop in October 2025.
Given that the game is currently under development and progressing, there’s a chance that the release date could be delayed if the developers require additional time to finish the project.
As a devoted fan, it’s exhilarating to learn that the talented minds behind Need for Speed, specifically Criterion, are deeply involved in the development of the upcoming Battlefield title. Just last month, EA’s Vince Zampella confirmed this very fact, hinting at their significant contribution to the new Battlefield game.
According to him, the team behind “Need for Speed” at Criterion is now collaborating with those working on “Battlefield.” He explained that as a company, they felt it was crucial to spend the last year taking in feedback from the “Need for Speed” community and using this input to develop content for the game titled “Unbound.
According to whispers from September 2024, there’s speculation that the game “Battlefield” could have a campaign set in the late 2020s. It’s rumored that the narrative of this new installment will center around clashes between a private military organization and NATO, with gameplay taking place across various global locations.
