Players of Battlefield Labs have shared that the gameplay test has been upgraded to a new version. According to Reddit user NSGXD, the Battlefield Labs Telegram group announced that this update is approximately 13 GB in size and includes enhancements for Nvidia’s DLSS 4 technology.
It’s been noted by players that the recent update has swapped the watermark for Battlefield Labs from Pre-Alpha to Alpha, suggesting that the development teams are making substantial progress on the game. Although Electronic Arts (EA) hasn’t provided specific details about this update yet, players have spotted files within the game’s folders hinting at a potential battle royale game mode.
This statement also strengthens the belief that a report from earlier this week was accurate, as Battlefield’s global senior director of integrated communications, Andy McNamara, hinted at the title being unveiled this summer. When asked if the game is still on track to be revealed in June, he replied, “The community will be informed when the reveal is imminent.” In other words, they are concentrating on Labs and making preparations for the Summer reveal.
As an avid gamer, I’ve been eagerly following the evolutions of the upcoming “Battlefield” title. In May, the dev team unveiled some exciting updates about its Labs playtest, particularly the revamped class system in the game. This new setup will bring about a few contentious adjustments, such as doing away with weapon restrictions on classes.
Instead of the developers, it appears they are attempting to encourage different players to select particular weapons based on their classes by offering them advantages when they use the appropriate weapon. This system, known as Signature Weapon, will offer perks such as a Recon class player receiving bonuses for using sniper rifles, like the ability to hold their breath for extended shots at long range.
The new system appears designed by developers to guide players towards optimal weapon loadout decisions based on class identity and teamwork without entirely restricting their freedom of choice. The Signature Weapon system in Battlefield aims to reward players for selecting specific weapon types according to their classes, but won’t penalize them excessively for choices that might not align with the ideal setup.
It’s important to mention that these characteristics are currently being tested and may undergo modifications or adjustments as the Battlefield Labs playtesting continues to advance.
In the course of the playtests, EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, expressed growing optimism about the launch of Battlefield 6 as Grand Theft Auto 6 has been pushed back to 2026 for release.
He noted during the conference call that while he can’t definitively comment on other companies’ launches or timelines, it’s generally understood that developing games often requires several years. If a launch wasn’t already planned for this specific timeframe, it could be challenging to prepare and seize what might turn out to be a more competitive window than previously expected.
