Battlefield Labs Playtest Will Expand to Bring in Players from Asia This Month

As a gamer, here’s how I would put it:

I’m excited to share that Electronic Arts (EA) has unveiled their roadmap for the upcoming Battlefield Labs playtests. In the latest update, they’ve shared their intentions to strengthen the gameplay foundation, which will serve as the backbone for future developments. This means good news for us gamers worldwide, as EA announced that Battlefield Labs will soon be accessible in regions beyond North America and Europe.

The company intends to expand its player base for the Battlefield Labs playtest beyond North America and Europe during May, by inviting gamers from specific Asian regions too. Although they haven’t specified which countries are part of this expansion, it’s expected that PC gaming markets like China will be among them.

In the blog post, Electronic Arts discussed the advancements they’ve made with the Battlefield Labs test based on the four play sessions held for players from North America and Europe. With countless hours of gameplay logged, the company reported over a million instances of environmental destruction during these tests. These events led to server performance and stability enhancements in the playtest.

In our first four gaming sessions with a group of dedicated Battlefield players spread across Europe and North America, we’ve played for countless hours, spawned hundreds of thousands of times, and witnessed more than a million environmental objects being destroyed – everything from walls, windows, crates, to entire buildings that your squad’s helicopter collided with, according to the company.

In light of the fact that one playtest was designed to evaluate both fundamental movements and gunplay, the post highlights how this testing has aided the company in striking an optimal balance between a player’s speed on foot across different movement options, such as crouch sprinting, combat rolling, and vaulting.

The company emphasized that developing fresh concepts for the future and gathering immediate player input remains essential in the Battlefield Labs procedure. Although not all ideas make it to launch, this process aids us in identifying and improving aspects that resonate best with players as we jointly construct Battlefield. This journey has been both enlightening and thrilling for our team and community, and we eagerly anticipate further collaboration with you!

In the coming stages, apart from adding new participants for the game trial, the company intends to give equal emphasis on adjusting the diverse weapon categories that players can utilize. This will involve not just modifying their damage outputs, but also fine-tuning related factors such as movement and battle rhythm. Furthermore, the team aims to continually refine the level of destruction in future trials, with a particular focus on optimizing damage for various surfaces and experimenting with destructible objects across multiple maps.

Recently, during an earnings call, I was thrilled to learn about the incredible success of EA’s Battlefield Labs playtest from none other than our CEO, Andrew Wilson. It was amazing to hear that a whopping 600,000 players participated in this playtest, collectively investing thousands upon thousands of hours into it! Moreover, the feedback we provided not only met expectations but surpassed them significantly. The response has been nothing short of phenomenal!

More details about Battlefield 6 are expected to be revealed in Summer 2025.
