Beatbreak

As I count down the hours until Digimon Con 2025, my excitement is through the roof! Little did we fans know, a brand-new Digimon website had already gone live, only to mysteriously disappear once word got out. This tantalizing new platform is called Digimon Beatbreak, and while details are scarce, it’s clear that it has an animated connection.

The intriguing image accompanying the webpage features a mosaic of all our beloved Digimon protagonists alongside their trusted partners. If this turns out to be the ninth mainline Digimon anime, and we count Digimon Fusion as two seasons, then Beatbreak would make its debut as the tenth!

Rumors have been swirling for some time now about a new series in the works, with 2025’s Digimon Con being the prime candidate for such an announcement. Here’s hoping Bandai will finally unveil their plans and quench our thirst for more Digimon adventures!

Bandai and Toei Animation have been organizing the Digimon Convention as a platform to provide fans with sneak peeks into the future of the franchise. Yet, some fans have expressed disappointment as they feel the event has not delivered significant announcements. Normally, the hosts would hint at a new Digimon project being in progress without providing any concrete details. Despite this, the Digimon Convention remains an exciting gathering that offers presentations and discussions about Digimon. Even so, it’s been confirmed that the Digimon franchise has a promising 2025 ahead. The game, Digimon Story: Time Stranger, is set to be released this year. Additionally, the convention has promised a new video for the Digimon Beyond music video and may possibly reveal some hints about the enigmatic Digimon Alysion.

Why Hasn’t There Been A Digimon Anime?

Unlike Pokemon, Digimon has historically had longer breaks between the release of its anime series. While Digimon did produce Adventure, Adventure 02, Tamers, and Frontier consecutively at the height of its popularity, the show often takes pauses between seasons. The most recent Digimon anime, Ghost Game, concluded on March 26th, 2023, indicating that it has been two years since a new Digimon series was shown.

Why It’s Time For A New Digimon Anime

After wrapping up the “Ghost Game,” Bandai shifted its attention towards creating media related to the franchise’s virtual wristbands and card games. In April 2023, they launched a continuous web novel series called “Digimon Seekers.” This series was linked to their popular line of bracelets that tracked physical activities. Users could attract a Digimon companion within these devices, and the type of exercise would influence its evolution. However, “Seekers” concluded on March 10th, 2024, and production on the vital wristbands ceased shortly afterwards.

The Digimon Trading Card Game has proven profitable for Bandai, as they continually introduce fresh decks and cards approximately every two months. A fresh online manga called Digimon Liberator is connected to the Digimon TCG, introducing new main characters and Digimon. Additionally, Bandai is publishing a continuous Liberator web novel that focuses on a distinct group of characters and creatures.

I’ve been eagerly awaiting some fresh Digimon projects, but I can’t help but feel that animation, one of its most beloved mediums, has been missing. After all, the franchise owes much of its enduring success to the classic anime series, Digimon Adventure, from the 90s. It’s been two years since we last saw a new series, and I believe it’s high time for another exhilarating Digimon anime!
