As someone who’s spent countless hours delving into the eerie depths of celluloid horrors, I must say that TCM’s Halloween programming lineup this year is a veritable feast for the frightened! The 1950s and 60s classics like “The Curse of Frankenstein” (1957) and “Horror of Dracula” (1958) will take me back to the black-and-white days of my youth, while modern gems such as “Blue Velvet” (1986) and “Willard” (1971) promise a chilling good time.
In the upcoming weeks leading up to Halloween, several streaming services are worth watching for horror enthusiasts, as these platforms are often the prime choices when it comes to modern horror films. Although they boast vast collections of movies, their emphasis is usually on newer releases, since viewers seek out the most recent theatrical premieres and original productions. For those who prefer to delve into the roots of the horror genre, dating back almost a century, Turner Classic Movies should be closely monitored, as they’ll spotlight timeless titles that have withstood the test of time.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but associate Bela Lugosi primarily with his iconic portrayal of Dracula in the 1931 Universal Pictures version. However, it’s fascinating to delve into the actor’s subsequent roles, especially his contributions to horror films that are showcased every Wednesday by TCM. This Halloween, TCM’s horror programming reaches its peak on the 30th and 31st of October, with a plethora of timeless classics gracing our screens. Among these gems, a marathon of Universal Monsters movies will be aired, featuring The Wolf Man, Dracula, and Frankenstein.
