A little over a year has passed since Belgravia: The Next Chapter debuted on the other side of the Atlantic, and at last, we have news about when UK audiences can catch the period drama sequel series.
ITV has officially announced that all eight episodes of the series will debut exclusively on ITVX on March 9th. This means we have approximately a month left to anticipate its arrival. Earlier, it was disclosed that the show was set to premiere on February 23rd, but this date has now been pushed back by an additional two weeks.
Though the series just made its official debut on UK television, a complete DVD collection had already been released in September 2024, and you can still purchase it from Amazon for £28.99.
Building on Julian Fellowes’ 2020 drama “Belgravia,” this new series is penned by Helen Edmundson (known for her work on Dalgliesh) and takes place in 1871, a full three decades after the storyline of the initial series.
The story unfolds the romantic journey between Frederick Trenchard, born as the third Lord Glanville, and Clara Dunn, a fresh face in London’s high society. Benjamin Wainwright (known for Gangs of London) portrays Frederick, while Harriet Slater (from Pennyworth) takes on the role of Clara. The plot summary hints at a blossoming romance and proposal, with Clara finding herself captivated. However, there’s more to Frederick than meets the eye; he harbors deep emotional scars from his past, stemming from years of neglect and resentment towards his father who favored their younger son, James.
Clara notices right away that Frederick’s cautious demeanor hints at underlying pain or trauma. She becomes certain that, by mending the rift between Frederick and his absent brother, she could help him regain his joy and contentment.
Amidst her schemes, Clara unexpectedly forms a friendship with the captivating Dr. Ellerby, who leads a free-spirited life. Enthralled by their fervent existence, Clara starts to ponder her role in this world.
Clara and Frederick need to navigate the gossips that are looming over them and uncover hidden truths from their past as they strive for enduring joy.
Apart from Wainwright and Slater, the ensemble also features Edward Bluemel (from A Discovery of Witches), Claude Perron (from WorkinGirls), Toby Regbo (known for The Last Kingdom), Hannah Onslow (starring in This Is Going to Hurt) and Sophie Thompson (familiar from Coronation Street), as well as Sophie Winkleman (actress from Sanditon).
As a dedicated cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that Susan Trenchard, portrayed by Alice Eve, and Oliver Trenchard, brought to life by Richard Goulding, are reprising their roles from the initial series!
