Here’s my take:
“Hey there fellow Emmerdale enthusiasts! Just a heads-up, if you haven’t watched the latest episode that dropped on ITVX on Wednesday, 12th February 2025, beware of potential spoilers ahead. Trust me, you don’t want to miss out on what went down!
As a film enthusiast, I feel compelled to warn you that this piece delves into the sensitive topic of domestic abuse, specifically focusing on coercive control. Some readers might find these discussions distressing. Please take care while reading.
In the most recent episode of Emmerdale, Belle Dingle (played by Eden Taylor-Draper) experienced a stressful day after choosing to pay a visit to her former spouse, Tom King (James Chase), who is currently incarcerated.
Last year, Tom was found guilty of both coercive control and assault against Belle. Now, under the guise of wanting to reconcile, he aims to reassert his power over her.
As the meeting approached, I, being Belle’s supportive sibling-in-law, found myself voicing my apprehensions to Belle, even though earlier I had encouraged her to be present.

This week, Lydia became apprehensive about the possibility that encountering Tom might impede Belle’s progress in overcoming her past abuse. However, Belle maintained that she felt prepared to handle him.
In the prison, Tom initially behaved amicably towards Belle, even trying to gather details about her current life from her.
Belle steered the discussion towards his abhorrent actions towards her, yet Tom contended that they could still salvage their marriage.
Instead, Belle countered by stating it was necessary to finalize a divorce, and made it clear to Tom that they would no longer indulge in his tactics of denial.
In a short while, Tom became quite aggressive, swearing to battle Belle over all possessions – however, as she rightly noted, there was simply nothing more to dispute, and it was clear that he had gained no new insights at all.
When Tom shouted her down, Belle stayed calm and made it clear that she would get her divorce.
After saying her farewells, Belle turned and departed permanently from Tom, leaving behind an air of finality. She even managed a self-satisfied smile.
Updating Lydia at home, Belle said it was now time for her to do whatever she pleased.
“I’m so happy,” she beamed.
So, it’s a fresh new start at last for Belle. What’s next for the beloved character?
