Below Deck Mediterranean Crew Devastated by Death of Loved One

As a dedicated follower of Below Deck Mediterranean, I can’t help but feel deeply moved by Nathan Gallager’s heart-wrenching journey. The loss of a close friend while being away at sea must have felt like an unbearable storm, and it’s incredibly brave of him to share his pain with the world.

One Below Deck Mediterranean yachtie is grieving a tragic loss.

In the September 2nd episode of the Bravo series, deckhand Nathan Gallager learned that one of his closest friends had passed away while he was out at sea. Needless to say, this news left him deeply saddened.

In a heartfelt moment shared during a private reflection, an individual from Ireland recounted receiving tragic news: “My friend, battling cancer, has sadly passed away.” Despite being aware of his illness, our speaker had spent the previous evening sharing drinks with their friend. The night before, he appeared well, though he wasn’t drinking. As emotions swirled and memories resurfaced, it became overwhelming to process all at once, so they chose to set aside the heaviness for now.

As the crew reveled in a well-deserved night out in Greece, I found myself feeling somewhat off-kilter. On our return journey to the boat, I confided in my boatmance partner, Gael Cameron, and the Chief Stew, Aesha Scott, the tough news I had been carrying.

Once back at the dock, Nathan finally let his emotions out.

Nathan shared with Gael, “I’m not sure why I feel this way, but I’m just so overwhelmed with sadness,” while weeping. Gael then consoled him by saying, “It doesn’t matter if you’re emotional, buddy. You’ve got a lot on your plate right now. It’s alright. You have permission to feel down sometimes.”

However, he noted, “It’s really f–king hard though. I’m really struggling to cope with it.”

In a confessional, Nathan explained why his loved one’s passing was particularly overwhelming.

“My mom was going through tests for cancer recently,” he shared. “She’s been cleared now, thankfully. I found out through my sister. My mom didn’t tell me directly. Grief and things like this isn’t something we talk about. I definitely tend to push people away. I’m doing what my mom does.”

After Aesha shared with Nathan’s closest friend and fellow deckhand, Joe Bradley, about his sorrow, Joe extended to him an abundance of support.

“Joe realized how tough things must be for Nathan,” he said thoughtfully in a private conversation. ” frankly, it’s beyond my comprehension. Now, Nathan is like a brother to me. So, I’m determined to support him. Whatever help he requires, we’ll manage it together. I want him to know that I’m here for him.”

In the end, the heartbreaking incident actually brought Nathan and Gael closer together.

In a private moment, she shared, “Nathan revealed an unexpected aspect of himself. There’s clearly a vulnerable spot he keeps hidden most of the time, and it’s painful to see him distressed. I remember Nathan supporting me during my tough times with my ex, and I want him to understand that I’m ready to offer him the same support.”

Below Deck Mediterranean airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on Bravo.
