Ben Affleck has had an illustrious career in Hollywood, and at just over 50 years old, his journey is still unfolding. He first grabbed the public’s attention with the release of ‘Good Will Hunting’ towards the end of the ’90s, which earned him his initial Oscar nod at a young age. Since then, he has consistently delivered top-notch performances, even winning a second Oscar for his work on the critically acclaimed film ‘Argo’. However, there are certain productions in his filmography that he may not cherish as much and would perhaps prefer to overlook. Recently, GQ magazine sat down with Affleck to discuss every movie he’s ever made, including ‘Phantoms’, a ’90s sci-fi flick that he might want to forget.
Affleck playfully remarked to the media outlet about his acting prowess in the film “Phantoms”. Everyone is aware of it, he added casually mentioning Peter O’Toole. Peter O’Toole, you know, autographed my Lawrence of Arabia poster, which was on set for Phantoms. I also enjoyed working with Nicky Katt and Liev Schreiber… Well, to be honest, I didn’t enjoy making that movie, but I like those people. To put it bluntly, the movie was more of a monster film set in Colorado, and I was a sheriff. At 20 years old, it was completely absurd. The movie was terrible, but I did get to ski. I made around $100,000, so I thought I was set for life and ready to retire. Plus, I got to hang out with Peter O’Toole and even smoke weed with him. I wondered, what else could possibly top this experience in my life? Nothing, really.
In a picturesque Colorado town, a chilling series of strange deaths occurs, leading some locals to suspect a cunning serial killer lurking among them. However, they come to discover that the reality is much more startling: an antiquated beast is causing chaos in their peaceful settlement.
The movie “Phantoms” is derived from Dean Koontz’s 1983 novel with the same title. Dean Koontz himself was in charge of adapting this book for the big screen, while Joe Chappelle, known for his work on TV’s “The Wire”, directed it.

5. The movie tanked at the box office, bringing in less than $6 million globally. To top it off, it didn’t receive positive feedback from critics either. Despite its 9% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Affleck seems to have had a good time while filming.
Beyond the actors Affleck mentioned, Affleck shares the screen with Rose McGowan, Joanna Going, Clifton Powell, and Rick Otto. If you didn’t catch the movie during its ’90s theater run or video release, here’s some good news: Phantoms is now available for streaming on Pluto.
