Ben Affleck in Talks to Play Hulk Hogan in New Movie

As a seasoned gamer with decades of virtual battles and real-life cinematic experiences under my belt, I must say, Ben Affleck‘s potential portrayal of Hulk Hogan in ‘Killing Gawker’ has me intrigued! The man has proven his versatility, from the unforgettable Daredevil to the enigmatic Batman. If he can pull off this wrestling icon, it would undoubtedly add another feather to his already impressive cap.

It’s possible that Ben Affleck could take on the role of wrestling legend Hulk Hogan, as recent reports suggest. On Monday, it was confirmed that Artists Equity, the production company co-founded by Affleck and his longtime collaborator Matt Damon, has obtained the screenplay for a new biopic titled “Killing Gawker“. This film is set to depict the true story of the legal conflict between Hogan and Gawker Media. As of now, Affleck is being considered for the role of Hulk Hogan himself, although no agreement has been reached yet. Directing duties are being discussed with Gus Van Sant, who has previously collaborated with Affleck and Damon on the critically acclaimed film “Good Will Hunting“.

The screenplay for the movie “Taking Down Gawker” draws inspiration from Ryan Holiday’s 2018 book “Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker and the Intricacies of Deceit.” Charles Randolph, who was previously nominated for an Oscar for his work on the 2015 film “The Big Short,” is writing this screenplay. The movie will detail the legal battle between Gawker Media and Hulk Hogan, which began when the website published a clip of a 2006 sex tape featuring the wrestler in 2012. Hulk Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, filed a lawsuit against the outlet alleging privacy invasion, violation of personality rights, and emotional distress, seeking $100 million in damages. In 2016, Gawker agreed to pay Hogan $31 million and eventually shut down their website due to the ongoing legal troubles. This marks the second biopic based on Hulk Hogan’s life, with Chris Hemsworth set to portray him in a more factual account of his life story.

Will Ben Affleck Play Batman Again?

Following a brief appearance as Bruce Wayne/Batman in last year’s “The Flash” film, it is now official that Affleck will not reprise his role in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s upcoming DC Universe. Moreover, prior to this announcement, he had suggested an inclination towards participating in franchise movies more broadly.

In an interview from 2021, Affleck stated, “Regarding ‘The Last Duel,’ I felt this might be my last theatrical release. I don’t enjoy making films based on intellectual properties (IP) anymore because they come with a pre-existing audience. Instead, I prefer others to tackle that kind of work, and if one must do it, they should truly love it. I, however, am drawn to something unique. What truly matters to me is the film being seen, whether in limited theatrical release or on streaming platforms like Amazon. I want as many people as possible to watch it – to see the movie.”
