Last year, it became known that the BBC obtained the rights for the comedy show titled “Austin,” featuring Ben Miller from Professor T and Sally Phillips from Miranda.
Excitedly, I can’t help but share the news! At last, the release date for our beloved show is officially announced and new episodes are just around the corner!
On Friday, 4th April at 9:30 PM, BBC One will debut Austin’s premiere. Additionally, all the episodes will be available for streaming on iPlayer starting from that same date.
The show was developed by Miller together with Darren Ashton, Joe Tucker, and Lloyd Wolf, and it focuses on a children’s book writer who creates a social media uproar that potentially ends their career.
In this scenario, Miller takes on the role of cherished children’s writer Julian Hartswood, whose professional journey seems to have reached a halt following the controversial social media incident. The fallout from this event not only affects him personally but also has repercussions for his wife Ingrid (portrayed by Sally Phillips).
However, an unexpected turn of events occurs when Austin (Michael Theo), the son Julian was unaware of and who is neurodivergent, suddenly appears.”
Austin, Julian’s unknown neurodivergent son, unexpectedly shows up.
Is it possible that Julian’s return to a contemporary nuclear family could be his pathway out of being canceled? Could Ingrid eventually find it within herself to forgive him? However, one point should be clear: if Julian underestimates Austin’s resolve, he’s in for an unexpected challenge.
In a new development, it’s revealed that Theo is the rising talent gracing our screens on Love on the Spectrum, marking his first foray into acting. Joining him are veteran actors Gia Carides, famously known from My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and Roy Billing, who previously starred in Jack Irish.
When the BBC announced their acquisition, Sue Deeks, the head of BBC program acquisition, stated that “Austin is undeniably charismatic, funny, and emotionally touching. Viewers will undoubtedly enjoy him from beginning to end without a moment’s hesitation.
Catherine Nebauer, the chief of scripted at Northern Pictures, stated: “The BBC offers an ideal setting for Austin, and we’re confident that its audience will delight in the witty mix of British and Australian humor.
Boasting an exceptional cast and crew, Austin has been well-received by local viewers on ABC. We’re thrilled to bring this show to a global audience soon.
