Ben Mitchell Set for EastEnders Comeback After Shocking 2024 Exit!

Actor Max Bowden is reportedly returning as Ben Mitchell to EastEnders later this year.

In early 2024, the character departed from the BBC One soap as it was then managed by Chris Clenshaw, following a choice to remove the character named Ben from the storyline.

Currently, The Sun is sharing news that the new executive producer, Ben Wadey, intends to invite Bowden for a guest appearance this year, potentially setting the stage for a permanent comeback in the future.

According to a reliable source, it was revealed that “Ben had a group of characters he intended to reintroduce, and Ben Mitchell was among them. The details have been worked out, and it’s been confirmed that Max will resume filming on Albert Square by the end of this year.

They claim that Wadey pitched the return storyline to Bowden himself, and the offer was accepted.

After departing from EastEnders, Bowden has graced various stage productions such as Birdsong, Midnight Cowboy, and Murder at Midnight.

Previously, during an interview on The Lewis Nicholls Show, Bowden expressed his thoughts about leaving EastEnders: “I appeared in almost 600 episodes over five years, which is a massive amount. It was high time for a break. The character had become weary, I was weary, and perhaps the producers were tired of me being weary.

He stated: “Honestly speaking, I felt it was necessary to take some time off. I wanted to concentrate on my own well-being, particularly my mental health, and strive for a state of optimal wellness. Additionally, I wished to focus on healing and, as a father, be fully present.

In March 2024, Bowden’s last appearance was as Ben Mitchell, when his character was arrested and sent to the U.S., due to credit card fraud committed in an attempt to fund Lola Pearce-Brown’s (Danielle Harold) treatment for a terminal brain tumor, in order to save his daughter Lexi.

I, being deeply moved, bid a heartfelt farewell to my partner Callum Highway (Tony Clay), as I stood on one side of a cell door, while he waited anxiously on the other, prior to my departure from the country.

After he left, the character has been frequently referred to and is still wedded to Callum. Notably, Callum has paid him visits in prison and recently shared an optimistic report about his well-being.

Fans of Callum Highway will also be delighted by rumors of Bowden’s comeback to the soap, as his character has been rather underutilized since his husband left, even though he continues to co-parent stepdaughter Lexi Pearce with Jay Brown, Lola’s widower and Ben’s adopted brother, despite their departure.

Ben Mitchell remains significantly connected to The Square, stemming from his parentage as the child of renowned soap characters Phil Mitchell (played by Steve McFadden) and Kathy Cotton (Gillian Taylforth), and also being the half-sibling of longtime Walford resident Ian Beale (portrayed by Adam Woodyatt).

Under Ben Wadey’s leadership, there are anticipated adjustments in the cast as Matthew Morrison (Felix Baker), Clair Norris (Bernadette Taylor), and Lacey Turner (Stacey Slater) have chosen to depart the show.

Reports indicate that it’s likely Jake Wood will reappear as the beloved rogue, Max Branning once more.
