The First Berserker: Khazan is swiftly becoming known for its Soulslike qualities and innovative concepts, along with enjoyable gameplay. Sporting a stylized animated art design and gear system reminiscent of the Nioh series, Khazan delivers a rich gaming experience in terms of both combat and loot. Despite having only three types of weapons, each one boasts its own intricate moveset and skill tree with various paths to explore.
At the game’s outset, players are initially limited to using Dual Wield weapons, a set consisting of an axe and a sword. However, they’ll soon acquire Spears and Greatswords as well. The choice of weapon type for early focus is flexible and depends on how players intend to handle combat against the initial Berserker: Zhazan.
In The First Berserker: Khazan, weapons follow a rarity-based system where enemies drop items at random. Initially, distinct weapons within the same category won’t significantly affect gameplay, except for the unique stats they come with. As you progress through the game, rare weapons like epics start to show differences between sets. However, during the early stages of the game, weapon selection primarily depends on your preferred playstyle. Here are some reasons to try out each weapon type in The First Berserker: Khazan at the beginning of your adventure.

In the gritty world of The First Berserker: Khazan, I, the gamer, was introduced to my first set of weapons – the agile and swift Dual Blades. At first glance, they seemed ordinary, but once I started investing a few skill points into their unique skill tree, they transformed into an exhilarating combat tool.
Their speed allowed me to execute rapid flurries of blows, keeping my enemies on their toes. Moreover, the exceptional mobility these weapons offered during battle was a game-changer. However, it wasn’t until I unlocked skills like Deftness, which let me attack while dodging, and Blowback, where I could deal damage upon performing a brink guard – a Khazan take on a perfect guard – that the true potential of these Dual Blades became apparent.
These two skills felt crucial in bringing out the best in this playstyle, making every battle feel more dynamic and engaging. The dance between offense and defense with the Dual Blades has become one of my favorite aspects of the game, adding a layer of excitement that I can’t get enough of!
Using Dual Blades, a player tends to sustain less stamina damage compared to other weapon types. This means that frequent dodges and flawless guards are particularly effective strategies. Moreover, Deftness and Blowback come with additional skills that provide extra counterattacks or boost effectiveness. As a result, players can opt to focus more on agility or defense, or evenly distribute points between the two.
The Dual Blades skill set doesn’t only provide defensive abilities, but also boasts a variety of offensive skills worth considering early on by players. For instance, the Whirlwind technique spins you around for a multiple strike attack, and buying related skills enables subsequent slam attacks. Executing the entire combo sequence unleashes a significant burst of damage. Phantom: Sword Dance is an eye-catching buff that generates shadow phantoms to amplify your attacks for 40 seconds. This DPS boost is something every Dual Blades user should consider investing in.
For those preferring Dual Blades, the top early choice would be any weapon that drops with the highest damage values. Enhancing Willpower is crucial for scaling damage on your weapon, while Strength will add damage as well, though its impact might be somewhat less significant.
2. Greatsword
Tanking And Revenge Damage

Recommended Skills
* Mortal Blow
* Savage Momentum
* Bloodshed
* Phantom: Night’s Veil
* Indomitable
* Armor Breaker
In The First Berserker: Khazan, a Greatsword may initially appear clumsy and sluggish for new players. However, once you put some skill points into this weapon, it transforms into an impressive tool, capable of delivering potent charged attacks and reducing damage while charging.
The strongest attacks for the Greatsword are the charged ones; initially, players can utilize Savage Momentum to power-up their light attacks by holding them. Later, Mortal Blow enables greatsword wielders to link consecutive heavy attacks with charged strikes into their combos. As charging attacks necessitates staying stationary, the Greatsword skill tree offers abilities to minimize damage received while charging.
As a gamer, I can say that Ghost Arm allows me to execute blocks even as I build up my heavy attacks, and Indomitable ensures that if I get hit during this process, the attack becomes stronger instead. The Unbreakable branch of the skill tree meshes really well with charged blows. For those who prefer an aggressive playstyle, Phantom: Night’s Veil provides a slam attack aided by spectral energy, which means I knock back and damage enemies for the next 40 seconds while charging up my next move.
Greatsword wielders have the flexibility to adopt defensive tactics by mastering parries and counterattacks, or they can opt for aggressive playstyles by employing Night’s Veil and charge attacks. A combination of both styles is also viable. Keep in mind that this weapon may require some investment in skill development before it becomes second nature, so beginners might consider learning a more user-friendly weapon first.
1. Spear
Stamina Sapper
Scaling Stats
* Primary: Proficiency
* Secondary: Willpower
Recommended Skills
* Moonlight Stance
* Full Moon
* Crimson Strike
* Spiral Thrust
* Assault
* Phantom Heatwave
For a novice player, the Spear could be the most accessible among the three weapon categories due to its combination of range, mobility, and defensive capabilities. Essentially, it lies in the middle ground between the agile Dual Blades and the heavy Greatsword, offering a balanced experience. Additionally, spears have an inherent trait that boosts stamina damage against enemies, allowing players to tire out their foes more quickly, making way for devastating attacks.
For starters when it comes to the Spear, players might want to focus on mastering the Moonlight Stance first. This ability triggers during light attacks and leaves behind ghostly copies of the player for increased attack power. It can be enhanced with various other abilities like increasing its stamina damage and linking into a wide area-of-effect sweep called Full Moon. Additionally, it complements the later skill Crimson Strike, which inflicts extra harm on fatigued adversaries.
In addition to its current abilities, the Spear could benefit from learning some moves from other skill trees as well. The Spiral Thrust, found in the Potent Blow tree, is a powerful single-target attack that does extra damage if an enemy has already been weakened by a heavy strike. This can be particularly useful during boss battles. Another move to consider is Assault, a dodging attack from the Chain tree, which is excellent for bridging gaps and draining stamina. You can enhance this skill even further with other abilities from the same tree.
In the game “The First Berserker: Khazan”, the Spear obtains one of the top defensive abilities named Phantom: Heatwave. This skill effectively deflects all incoming attacks when activated, and in addition, it retaliates with counterstrike damage. Remarkably, it can parry multiple blows simultaneously while active and inflict damage on the opponent. Successfully employing this skill increases the potency of Moonlight Stance, making it a valuable asset for Spear players, even though it may not be accessible early in the game. The Spear is a versatile weapon that proves to be an excellent choice for new players in “The First Berserker: Khazan”.
