As a cinephile who has spent countless hours in the dimly lit halls of cinemas, I am utterly thrilled with the lineup of films set to grace our screens this November!
This November promises to be as thrilling for movie premieres as Barbenheimer’s double release in July, given the influx of highly anticipated, blockbuster films gracing our screens all month long.
It’s said that the upcoming films Gladiator II, Wicked, and Moana 2, releasing each Friday in the UK, are being viewed as a “triumvirate of cinema experiences” by the industry. They anticipate that these three movies will draw massive numbers of moviegoers to theatres.
Leaving aside the fact that Paddington is set in Peru and will be released on the 8th of November, this new adventure features the adored bear returning to his native land. Notably, Olivia Colman and Antonio Banderas have also joined the cast for this exciting journey.
Moreover, the month is filled with a plethora of fresh releases that have hit the cinemas. Among them are Sean Baker’s Palme D’Or winner Anora, Steve McQueen’s Second World War film Blitz, Clint Eastwood’s Juror No #2, and Small Things Like These, a subtle drama featuring an outstanding performance by Cillian Murphy.
Currently generating buzz as a potential award winner is the suspenseful film, “Conclave,” set within the Vatican. This movie features an impressive ensemble cast including Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, and Isabella Rossellini. UK cinemas will screen it by the end of this month.
This month, we’ve gathered a few excellent movies worth watching; take a look at the video up top or keep reading for our recommendations.
Anora
Release date: Friday 1st November in cinemas (out now)
In a different wording, Sean Baker’s captivating movie features Mikey Madison portraying a sex worker who unexpectedly ties the knot with a son from a Russian oligarch family. However, their presumed fairy tale romance takes an unpleasant turn once his relatives learn about their sudden marriage.
Blending elements of romantic tales, zany comedies, and criminal dramas, this movie has garnered attention, having won the Palme D’Or at Cannes and being tipped as a strong contender in the Oscars race. Notably, Madison’s mesmerizing performance in the lead role is earning high acclaim.
Blitz

Release date: Friday 1st November in cinemas (out now)
Steve McQueen’s newest film offers a rollicking, episodic journey of a young lad attempting to return home amidst World War II; newcomer Elliott Heffernan delivers a standout performance in the central role, while the consistently brilliant Saoirse Ronan takes on his mother.
The movie exhibits a broader scope compared to some of McQueen’s other works, yet it retains his signature visual creativity. It carries an antique allure and offers insightful social commentary, portraying a less idealized interpretation of the Blitz spirit than typically depicted.
Juror #2

Release date: Friday 1st November in cinemas (out now)
Marketed as potentially Clint Eastwood’s last movie, Juror #2 features Nicholas Hoult portraying a juror grappling with an ethical conundrum in a murder case whose verdict may dramatically affect the defendant’s destiny.
In contrast to its restricted debut in the United States, the movie is currently being screened extensively across the ocean, particularly here, and has garnered predominantly positive feedback from critics.
Small Things Like These

Release date: Friday 1st November in cinemas (out now)
In a quietly impactful drama based on Claire Keegan’s renowned book, Cillian Murphy gives another exceptional portrayal, focusing on Ireland’s infamous Magdalene laundries.
In the year 1985, I find myself as Bill Furlong, overseeing a modest coal enterprise within the heart of County Wicklow. My days are filled with routine business matters, but one day, an unsettling sight catches my eye – a young woman being mistreated at our local convent. I grapple with the question of whether to step in and challenge the status quo.
Heretic

Release date: Friday 1st November in cinemas (out now)
In a chilling horror movie, Hugh Grant takes on an exceptionally wicked character as a seemingly pleasant individual. However, this individual harbors a deeply malevolent scheme against two Mormon missionaries who visit his residence under the guise of friendship, only to reveal his hidden, menacing intentions.
In the hands of screenwriting team Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, who also directed, this movie is a nerve-wracking experience that becomes even more intense due to Grant’s exceptional portrayal. He skillfully transforms his character into an intriguing yet despicable figure through his captivating performance.
Paddington in Peru

Release date: Friday 8th November in cinemas
In a new chapter, the beloved British bear embarks on another exciting journey, this time returning to his native land. Notably, Olivia Colman and Antonio Banderas have joined the ensemble cast, while Emily Mortimer steps into the role previously held by Sally Hawkins as Mrs. Brown.
In this new version, Dougal Wilson assumes the director’s role from Paul King. While it may not reach the heights set by the prior film, it still offers an enjoyable experience for families, filled with enchanting instances and a fair share of marmalade sandwiches.
Bird

Release date: Friday 8th November in cinemas
In a departure from traditional stories about growing up, Andrea Arnold’s newest movie showcases the journey of life told through the eyes of a 12-year-old girl named Bailey, portrayed by newcomer Nykiya Adams. Barry Keoghan and Franz Rogowski join her in this unique narrative, playing supporting roles.
In a makeshift home in the north of Kent, she resides with her lone father (Keoghan) and her sibling Hunter. However, due to limited familial interaction, she often yearns for excitement beyond her immediate surroundings.
Gladiator II

Release date: Friday 15th November in cinemas
In the highly awaited follow-up by director Ridley Scott, Paul Mescal assumes the central character, with Denzel Washington playing a substantial role, along with notable appearances by Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, and the reprisal of Connie Nielsen.
16 years later, we find ourselves following a grown-up Lucius on his personal journey of vengeance. His objective: restoring Rome to the hands of its citizens by overthrowing the twin emperors and their persistent campaigns of conquest.
Wicked

Release date: Friday 22nd November in cinemas
At long last, the big-screen rendition of the successful stage production of both Broadway and West End musicals, covering the initial portion, will grace movie theaters. In this production, Ariana Grande portrays Galinda, while Cynthia Erivo takes on the role of Elphaba.
Indeed, you likely recognize the tale: a precursor to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, it portrays the blossoming camaraderie between Elphaba, often misjudged, and Galinda, who craves popularity. However, their bond is tested significantly following an incident involving the Wizard of Oz.
Conclave

Release date: Friday 29th November in cinemas
In this Vatican-based drama, based on Robert Harris’s popular novel and featuring Ralph Fiennes in the lead role, various cardinals argue amongst themselves while striving to choose a new pope.
In addition to several prominent actors, Stanley Tucci and John Lithgow are included, while Isabella Rossellini takes on an impactful character as a nun crucial to the intrigue, among others.
Moana 2

Release date: Friday 29th November in cinemas
In the realm of cinema, I found myself utterly captivated by the sequel to Disney’s blockbuster animated film. This time around, our beloved protagonist receives an unforeseen summons from her ancestral roots, leading me on a mesmerizing journey across the vast, mysterious oceans of Oceania.
In the upcoming movie, Auli’i Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson, Temuera Morrison, Nicole Scherzinger, Rachel House, and Alan Tudyk will once again lend their voices, similar to what they did in the original film. However, this time around, Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear have taken over as additional songwriters from Lin-Manuel Miranda.
