Alien Isolation
Following the underwhelming release of Aliens: Colonial Marines, which left gamers worldwide feeling let down, some speculated that a truly exceptional game from this popular series might never materialize. The game failed to live up to expectations even in comparison to AvP Requiem, let alone the original Alien film.
It’s great that there’s Alien: Isolation, a game reminiscent of the haunting atmosphere from the 1979 movie. In this game, you navigate a desolate space station, always on the run from an alien pursuer. The strategy here is to stay stealthy and quiet. Although the scares may lessen over time, the game maintains an air of tension and anxiety throughout your playthrough.
A Plague Tale: Requiem
This sequel can be described as both terrifyingly captivating and visually stunning. It’s a gruesome narrative featuring a youthful protagonist, another young character, and countless rats, making it an unmissable experience.
Initially, The First Plague Tale was enjoyable, but its sequel, Requiem, surpasses it significantly. If you appreciate horror games teeming with rats and are fascinated by the unforgiving aspects of medieval Europe, then downloading and playing Requiem is highly recommended.
Dead Space
Initially, we thought our first playthrough of Dead Space would be a gradual introduction to the game before the horrifying events ensued. However, it turned out quite differently. The scares set in quickly, with a pulse-pounding chase almost as soon as you take control of Isaac. From then on, there was barely any respite from the terror.
This game is truly spine-tingling, with multiple instances that left us astonished, and this sentiment applies to each game within the series. Currently, you can access all three games through Xbox Game Pass, as they’ve recently been added to the library due to the incorporation of all EA Play titles.
Inside
In a horror video game, it’s not mandatory for there to be excessive violence or frightening moments lurking at every turn. The game “Inside” demonstrates that an effective atmosphere can be created without any dialogue from its characters.
The story revolves a boy attempting to escape the enemies attempting to capture him. There are puzzles to solve, excellent audio and a memorable ending.
The Evil Within
If you’re fond of survival horror games, then you should definitely explore The Evil Within. This game tells the story of Sebastian Castellanos, a character who finds himself in a twisted reality teeming with grotesque beings that harbor no kindness towards the player.
The terrifying aspects of the game received acclaim upon its release, living up to expectations for being genuinely frightening. If you manage to make it past the initial levels, you’ll have the opportunity to experience the same chilling adventure again with the sequel – a game that can also be played using Game Pass.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
In November 2023, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was unveiled, offering an exceptional immersion experience. The game puts you in the role of Senua, who embarks on a journey to Helheim with the aim of rescuing her beloved’s soul.
You also get a stark insight into her own thoughts including hallucinations and plenty of visual disorientation to take the immersion up another level
Telltale’s The Walking Dead
This particular game stands out from the others on the list because it’s developed by Telltale, who are known for creating interactive adventure games rather than high-action ones. The main appeal lies in its compelling narrative, which has a knack for pulling you in and making you feel deeply connected to the characters, more so than you might anticipate.
Lee and Clem serve as strong main characters, supported by a variety of other personalities – some reliable, others questionable. This unfolds amidst the chaos of a zombie outbreak, where unfortunately, several endearing individuals won’t survive until the end.
Currently, you have access to every installment of Telltale’s The Walking Dead via Xbox Game Pass. Each game offers a captivating chapter in the overall narrative, making them highly recommended for an immersive story experience.
