Beyond Paradise Christmas special cast: Meet the new and returning characters

As I delve into the lives of these remarkable characters gracing our screens in Beyond Paradise, I can’t help but be captivated by their stories and the rich tapestry of experiences they bring to the table. Each actor brings a unique flavor to their roles, breathing life into the complexities and nuances of their characters.

Before the premiere of Season 3 of Beyond Paradise, BBC thoughtfully presents a heartwarming Christmas special for your enjoyment alongside your mulled wine. As always, there’s no shortage of excitement to keep you engaged!

In the given synopsis, it says that when a man who has lost his wife finds himself encountering her spectral form, detective inspector Humphrey Goodman and his team are summoned to look into the matter.

DS Esther Williams expresses skepticism, while Humphrey eagerly embraces the opportunity for his initial encounter with a haunting. After all, it’s Christmastime, and isn’t everyone intrigued by a holiday-themed ghost tale?

Besides caring for teenage boy named Jaiden, Humphrey and Martha initially didn’t have the anticipated experience – not right away.

Kris Marshall mentioned that Humphrey and Martha have only had one temporary foster placement so far, which was for a lively, mischievous boy named Ryan. He added that Ryan was generally manageable, but this was a brief arrangement.

Each kid is unique, and fostering can feel like a thrilling yet emotional ride. With every new placement comes distinct difficulties, but Martha and Humphrey tackle these hurdles side by side.

Though both Humphrey and Martha are engaged, it’s primarily Martha who handles the majority of parenting responsibilities. However, Humphrey derives immense satisfaction from their fostering journey.

In addition to Humphrey, Martha, and the primary characters, a number of new actors have been brought on as special guests.

Dive into this write-up to unravel the fascinating personalities gracing our screens in the ‘Beyond Paradise’ Christmas special, along with a glance at the previous roles of the talented actors portraying them!

Kris Marshall plays DI Humphrey Goodman

Inquiry: Who is Detective Inspector (DI) Humphrey Goodman?

Initially, their efforts to have a child pushed their bond with Martha to its limits during the first season, but now they’ve found solace in fostering children instead. Despite planning a wedding in the previous season, the timing just didn’t feel appropriate for them.

Have I encountered Kris Marshall somewhere else apart from Death in Paradise? Besides Death in Paradise, he’s most famously recognized for roles in Love Actually, My Family, and Sanditon, to name a few.

Sally Bretton plays Martha Lloyd

Who is Martha Lloyd? She’s the proprietor of her own café, often associated with Humphrey. During the initial season, they both endeavored to conceive a child, but later shifted focus towards foster care due to the ongoing heartbreak becoming excessively taxing.

Bretton remarked, ‘It’s been a pleasure revisiting this character after five long years.’ He finds Martha appealing because she’s both warm-hearted and ambitious, yet she tends to ponder too much, making her an intriguing role to portray.

Have you spotted Sally Bretton elsewhere, perhaps in the comedy series “Not Going Out” starring Lee Mack?

Zahra Ahmadi plays Detective Sergeant Esther Williams

Who is Detective Sergeant Esther Williams? She initially found herself puzzled by Humphrey upon their initial encounter due to his unique style of law enforcement, but over time, they’ve forged a robust professional bond and friendship.

She’s intelligent and driven, rising through the police ranks at a rapid rate, and she knows the community inside and out having grown up there, which is invaluable during their investigations. She had a child when she 17, which was a challenging moment in her life, but she rose to the occasion.

Have I encountered Zahra Ahmadi somewhere else in my TV-viewing experience? She portrayed the original Shabnam on EastEnders, featured in BBC sitcom Count Arthur Strong, and was part of season 3 on ITV’s The Bay. Additionally, she made an appearance in a single episode of Death in Paradise back in 2018.

Dylan Llewellyn plays Police Constable Kelby Hartford

Who is Police Constable Kelby Hartford? He’s an individual who hails from Shipton Abbott, giving him extensive knowledge about the criminal element he often apprehends.

At times, Kelby can be a bit green, yet his diligence and determination are admirable qualities that benefit him greatly in his work. Moreover, he consistently seeks to make a good impression on Humphrey.

Have I encountered Dylan Llewellyn elsewhere? He played the “little English lad” in Derry Girls and Jack in Big Boys.

Felicity Montagu plays Office Support Margo Martins

Who is Margo Martins, the office support at the police station? She’s the one who keeps the phones running smoothly while giving some unforgettable looks to those who pass by. She adores her work, even if she wouldn’t openly confess it.

Margo has been married three times, each spouse having passed away, and she seldom interacts with her adult offspring. Initially, she isn’t fond of Humphrey upon his introduction, yet over time, she comes to admire him. (She’s not a serial widow or a suspected murderer, thankfully.)

Have I encountered Felicity Montagu somewhere else, perhaps she is recognized for her role as Lynn in Alan Partridge, and more recently, she’s been on Channel 4’s comedy series called Hullraisers?

Barbara Flynn plays Anne Lloyd

Who is Anne Lloyd? She’s Martha’s mother. Her spouse passed away three years prior, leaving her grief-stricken. However, she has a strong bond with her daughter. In season 2, she delved into the world of dating, which led to some tension with Martha and ended in heartache for her.

Have you noticed Barbara Flynn in any previous roles? She’s been on ITV’s Kate & Koji and The Durrells, as well as BBC’s Cranford and Cracker alongside Robbie Coltrane.

Melina Sinadinou plays Zoe

“Who is Zoe, as related to Esther?” or simply “Who is Esther’s daughter Zoe?” Both versions convey the same meaning and provide a clear context for understanding the relationship between the two individuals.

Where have I seen Melina Sinadinou before? This is her biggest role to date.

Jade Harrison plays Charlie Woods

Who is Charlie Woods, you ask? She’s a firm yet charismatic leader, not one to back down easily. Kelby harbors strong feelings for her.

In my film-watching adventures, I’ve come across Jade Harrison in various roles. She’s the familiar face from Netflix’s The Stranger, the captivating character in the Disney Plus series Wedding Season, and a notable figure in the long-running soap opera Hollyoaks.

Additional returning cast includes:

  • Amalia Vitale (Big Mood) plays Hannah Owen – a social worker who Humphrey and Martha have been liaising with regarding fostering.

Beyond Paradise Christmas special guest cast

  • Austin Taylor (Doctor Who) plays Jaiden – he’s being fostered by Humphrey and Martha.
  • Mark Heap (Friday Night Dinner, Spaced, Green Wing, Lark Rise to Candleford) plays Bob – his wife died earlier in the year and he’s now seeing her ghost.
  • Rosaline Adler plays Linda – Bob’s late wife.
  • Tamla Kari (The Musketeers, The Ipcress File, DI Ray) plays Fiona – Bob’s youngest child.
  • Seann Walsh (a comedian who appeared on Strictly Come Dancing with Katya Jones) plays Colin – Fiona’s partner. He runs his own business specialising in sustainable packaging.
  • Chizzy Akudolu (Holby City) plays Reverend Kate
  • Simon Nagra (Doctors, Three Girls) plays Marcus – he was on the verge of buying Bob’s house when the sale fell through.
  • Sami Amber plays Ben – Jaiden’s youngest brother.
