Bill Murray is sharing his memories of Gene Hackman.

Reminiscing about filming “The Royal Tenenbaums”, Murray openly acknowledged that the late screen icon, who passed away at age 95 on February 26 alongside his wife Betsy Arakawa, was not always straightforward when working together on the 2001 comedy.

In the sneak peek for his interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, airing March 5th, Murray expressed understanding towards Gene. To him, Wes Anderson was merely a young, rebellious filmmaker. However, Gene has gone on to create some of the finest American films. According to Murray, Anderson was somewhat testy, given that he had to work with children and dogs. These circumstances placed him in difficult situations and made him feel overwhelmed and unsure about his role among these people.

However, even though the two-time Oscar winner initially seemed gruff, Murray (at 74 years old) noted that the end result was an undeniable triumph.

“Goodbye Gene,” he said. “I hope you’re well wherever you are.”

The interview on the talk show took place a day subsequent to the discovery of Hackman and Arakawa’s bodies, as well as those of one of their three pets in their New Mexico residence. Although the probe into this incident continues, the exact timing of their demise remains undetermined by the authorities.
