As a long-time enthusiast of sports and entertainment, I found myself captivated by the grandeur and excitement of the Paris 2024 Olympics Closing Ceremony. The event was nothing short of a spectacle, with performances that spanned genres and generations, all culminating in a dazzling light show that left me in awe.

Billie Eilish proved the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics could be the greatest.

Following Tom Cruise’s torch relay from Paris to Los Angeles during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Olympics on August 11, Billie set off excitement for the 2028 summer games by performing “Birds of a Feather” at a beachside venue.

In a tribute to Team USA, the 22-year-old artist, who covered “Can’t Stop” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, joined her brother and musical partner Finneas to perform their hit song “Hit Me Hard And Soft”. She donned an Olympics-themed Ralph Lauren polo shirt, cargo shorts, and a pair of one red and one blue knee-high socks, all in keeping with the Olympic spirit. To give it her own unique twist, she accessorized with a Phantogram baseball cap, basketball shoes, and a dog tag necklace.

Billie’s performance embodied the laid-back atmosphere of Los Angeles, taking place on a blue pier overlooking the sea, surrounded by fans and countless palm trees. Towards the end, Snoop Dogg stepped in to complete the homage to the West Coast city with a rendition of “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “The Next Episode” alongside Dr. Dre.

Before stealing the spotlight in his Los Angeles shows, Tom once more demonstrated his bravery by making a grand entrance at the Stade de France arena in Paris. During the symbolic torch relay, the actor from Top Gun: Maverick descended from the rafters to grab the Olympics flag from L.A. mayor Karen Bass and Team USA gold medalist Simone Biles.

Of course, the grand finale paid tribute to several of Tom’s daring character portrayals. It culminated with him exiting the stadium on a motorbike before performing an impressive stunt by boarding a jet. The program also featured a clip of him adding the Olympic emblem to the iconic Hollywood sign.

In another part of the ceremony, H.E.R. added American style to Paris by singing the National Anthem before the torch was passed. Meanwhile, Paris maintained the artistic aspects from the Opening Ceremony with a captivating Golden Voyager character—who danced contemporarily to honor both Paris’s and the Olympics’ rich histories.
