The sequels of the series kept presenting intriguing concepts, but following the release of BioShock Infinite, there was a break in production. However, in 2019, it was officially announced that BioShock 4 was being developed, although no specifics about its plot or appearance were disclosed. 2K has maintained that progress on the game is ongoing, but beyond some cryptic rumors, we can only guess what the final product will look like. The platform suggests it doesn’t have detailed information, but emphasized that Rapture will be integral to the announcement. Speculation suggests this might be about the upcoming BioShock film on Netflix, but director Francis Lawrence’s recent statements indicate they’re still working out aspects of that project. Moreover, Lawrence is scheduled to direct the next Hunger Games movie in 2026, which leaves little time for him to work on a large-scale production like BioShock until at least late 2026.

There are rumors swirling around about a potential remake or enhancement of the classic game “BioShock,” aimed at reacquainting gamers with the nearly 20-year-old series. Interestingly, a remastered version of the game is already available on PS4 and Xbox One, compatible with current-generation consoles. It’s speculated that the upcoming “BioShock 4” could be set in an arctic city, potentially offering refuge to characters from Rapture.
