As a gamer with a penchant for horror movies and an appreciation for the classics, I can hardly contain my excitement for Robert Eggers’ modern take on the iconic “Nosferatu“. This upcoming Robert Eggers’ movie titled “Nosferatu” could be delivering a dose of terror for your holiday season this Christmas. It seems we won’t have to wait much longer though, as Focus Features recently released a cryptic snippet on social media last Friday. If you carefully examine the footage, it hints at September 30th, 2024 – that’s Monday, September 30th – which suggests the trailer for the highly anticipated film might be just around the corner. The accompanying caption was as spine-tingling as the clip itself: “‘Til you call me to come, you shall watch the world fade away.

‘Til you bid me come, shall you watch the world become as naught.

Eggers’ Nosferatu offers a modern twist on the 1922 silent film of the same name, weaving a gothic narrative around a young woman haunted by her obsession with a terrifying vampire who is equally enamored with her. This obsessive connection leaves a trail of horror in its wake. In this adaptation of Nosferatu, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney, Willem Dafoe, and Bill Skarsgard take on the roles. Skarsgard’s portrayal of Count Orlok as the chilling vampire reportedly required a “terrifying” transformation.

In simpler terms, “Hoult stated that it’s not Bill [the actor], but rather the character he portrays who is terrifying. The reason for concern is his exceptional transformation in the role, where there’s no trace of Bill left. His performance is chilling and intimidating. His voice, physicality, even the makeup, create an extraordinary character. His work on this character was impressive and commendable.

Skarsgård himself has openly discussed his experience playing Count Orlok, sharing that the role of Nosferatu had a profound impact on him.

The experience left its mark, he said, resembling summoning unspeakable darkness. Shaking off the malevolent force that had been unleashed within me proved to be a lengthy process.

He went on to say, “He’s rather repulsive, yet there’s a strong sexual undertone. The monster’s power and allure seem to be linked to a particular fetish. Ideally, it will pique your interest while simultaneously making you feel revolted by that interest. I doubt anyone will recognize me in it.

Alexander Skarsgard joins the list of actors portraying Count Orlok, as Eggers’ movie offers a modern interpretation of the 1922 film “Nosferatu,” which was an unauthorized adaptation based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Remarkably, the original “Nosferatu” altered several aspects of the narrative, but Stoker’s descendants filed a lawsuit over the adaptation. The court decision mandated that all copies of the film be destroyed; however, miraculously, one copy survived, ensuring the film’s endurance and its significant impact on not only horror movies, but also vampire films and folklore as a whole.

According to Eggers’ perspective, this adaptation will bring some minor changes as well. Previously, Eggers stated that the movie leans more towards Johnny Depp’s portrayal of Ellen compared to earlier adaptations.

According to Eggers, the film is quite frightening, falling under the category of horror. More specifically, it can be described as a Gothic horror movie. He believes that it’s been a while since we’ve seen an old-school Gothic film that genuinely scares people. Eggers expects most viewers to find this movie truly scary.

He added, “It’s even more Ellen’s story than previous versions … And Lily-Rose is absolutely phenomenal.”

Nosferatu opens in theaters December 25th.
