As a dedicated fan of the Black Hammer universe, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the announcement of Black Hammer: Spiral City. The thought of diving back into this rich and intricately woven world created by Jeff Lemire is an absolute delight.
The saga of Black Hammer isn’t finished yet. Dark Horse Comics has announced that this popular superhero series will continue with a new installment called Black Hammer: Spiral City. Following directly after the conclusion of Black Hammer: The End, this latest addition introduces a whole new set of characters in the altered world brought about by the events in The End. Jeff Lemire, the series creator, will pen the storyline, with Teddy Kristensen joining as the new artist.
After the Second Cataclysm in the universe of “Black Hammer: Spiral City,” many lost heroes have come back, but there’s no warm welcome as people grow increasingly against superhumans. This anti-superhuman sentiment is fanned by Malcolm Gold, the ex-leader of T.R.I.D.E.N.T and current mayoral candidate in Spiral City.
Additionally, Spiral Asylum’s closure worsens the situation. This institution once housed numerous low-risk, mentally ill superhumans. Now, they roam freely in the streets of Spiral City. Against this altered Black Hammer Universe landscape, fresh narratives emerge and interconnect, revealing intriguing insights into the lives of Spiral City’s less prominent residents dwelling on its outskirts.
During our conversation with Lemire in 2023, he hinted at the continuation of the series, implying that The End was not truly the last appearance for the characters in his renowned superhero saga.
I’ve spent the last five years immersed in a rich and complex world of storytelling, pouring my heart and soul into every detail. Now, as I approach the completion of this chapter, I can’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment and pride. It’s as if all the intricate threads of my work have come together to form a beautiful tapestry, connecting the various spinoffs, miniseries, and other projects into one grand narrative.
