What happened in USS Callister?

At Callister Inc., a renowned firm famous for its advanced virtual reality game, Infinity, we find ourselves introducing Nanette Cole, the newest team member who joins as a programmer.
Users attach a gadget to their foreheads, instantly experiencing the sensation of truly exploring alien landscapes, earning virtual currency, and combating adversaries.
The business was established by Chief Technology Officer Robert Daly and Chief Executive Officer James Walton. However, Walton has been unkind to the more reserved Daly, which in turn has caused Daly to hold a grudge against him.
In a turn of events, Daly develops an affection for Nanette. However, Shania, her new coworker, cautions Nanette about Daly’s unusual staring habits. Unbeknownst to all, Daly surreptitiously collects a sample of Nanette’s DNA from her coffee cup and employs it to generate a digital replica of her within his personal project, Infinity – a software build he’s customized to mimic the aesthetic of his beloved sci-fi series, Space Fleet.
In a different phrasing: The DNA duplicator not only reproduces Nanette’s consciousness but also brings her to life within the game. She encounters other staff members – Walton, Shania, Elena (who appears with blue skin in the game), Nate and Kabir – who have all been duplicated as well. However, Daly uses this virtual world as a platform to settle his personal grudges against their real-life counterparts.
He has also cloned another colleague, Karl Valdack, to be his mutant arch enemy.
On Daly’s ship, the USS Callister, Nanette is instructed to assume the role of a lieutenant. However, she defies this order. In response, Daly exhibits his authority over her, stripping away her facial features in an attempt to suffocate her, yet keeping her alive. Given his control over the game’s environment, he has the ability to inflict endless torment on those who disobey him.
For a while, Nanette pretends to go along with the game, but as soon as Daly steps out, she manages to send an email to her actual self. In reality, though, when Nanette does this, Daly simply disregards it as junk mail.
In the game, Daly returns to face off with his team, but things take a turn when Shania retorts, causing Daly to turn her into a monster in response.
After Daly’s absence, the team deliberates on their next course of action. It is then revealed that Daly had cloned his own son in the past, expelled him from an airlock, and forced Walton to bear witness to the act.
Nanette uncovers a wormhole, recognizing it as a passageway to the upcoming version of Infinity. She and her team decide to journey through this portal, which she fears will erase everyone involved.
Yet, they understand that initially, they need to obtain Daly’s stockpile of their DNA from the real world, so he can’t merely recreate them following this event.
When Daly comes back, Nanette embarks on a journey alongside him, keeping him preoccupied. Simultaneously, the others manage to infiltrate Nanette’s online photo archive and use it against her authentic self by menacingly suggesting they will disclose her personal, revealing photos if she doesn’t comply.
In my own words, I eagerly comply with the team’s directions as the genuine Nanette places an order for a pizza at Daly’s residence, causing him to step out of the game. As he departs, I covertly slip in through the back door and discreetly pilfer the samples.
Meanwhile, as these events unfold, the game character of Nanette re-joins the team aboard their spaceship. Guided by this vessel, they make their way towards the wormhole. Upon his return, Daly endeavors to pursue them using a different spacecraft.
Passing through an asteroid belt, the Callister sustains damage and comes to a halt, necessitating manual repair of its malfunctioning thrusters. Given the dangerous nature of this task, it appears to be a perilous undertaking. Walton accepts the challenge, needling Daly over their shared communication channel as he does so. As the thrusters ignite once more, Walton meets his end in a flash of fire.
As the wormhole vanishes, the team manages an escape, but Daly remains trapped within. The system detects unauthorized modifications in his development version, thus locking him out of command. Trapped in this digital realm, he cannot log off, leaving the actual Daly stuck in his seat, eventually leading to his demise.
After navigating through the wormhole as anticipated, the team surprisingly discovered themselves in the standard iteration of Infinity instead.
The modified spacecraft design and their costume adjustments were lost, and Elena, Shania, and Valdack returned to their original, unaltered looks.
They ventured out into space, escaping Daly’s influence, and it was Nanette who took command. However, they quickly discovered they wouldn’t sail the cosmos in solitude; instead, they would be joining a larger group of individuals navigating the universe together.
That’s where we left the crew, with the story set to be picked up in USS Callister: Into Infinity.
In the upcoming episode, it’s revealed that Robert Daly has passed away. However, things get even more challenging for the crew of the USS Callister under the leadership of Captain Nanette Cole.
