Black Myth: Wukong – 12 More New Details You May Not Know

As an avid gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the latest revelations about Black Myth: Wukong have me more than a little intrigued. The transformation abilities, stealth mechanisms, and even the potential for fishing (who would’ve thought?) are features that immediately grab my attention.

The last teaser for Game Science’s “Black Myth: Wukong” has been unveiled, and it’s safe to say it’s breathtaking. The music, the graphics, the design, the action – everything appears spotless and captivating, making us eagerly await its launch (luckily, it’s not too far away). This trailer also offers a wealth of fresh insights into the gameplay, such as the various shapes the Destined One can take, new adversaries, possible new activities, and much more.

Absolutely, in addition to what we’ve discussed so far, let me share with you 12 fascinating facts about the upcoming game, “Black Myth: Wukong,” which is set to release on August 20th for both PS5 and PC. Enjoy!

New Transformations

So far, we’ve witnessed quite a few changes, ranging from Guangzhi to a man made of rock with an oversized head. However, this is just a taste of what’s yet to be revealed. The trailer introduced a character draped in red robes, capable of darting through enemies and slashing them with its claws. Additionally, there was a tentacle form that unleashes wide-reaching attacks to impact enemies surrounding the Chosen One. We also caught glimpses of a spiky form, among others. Each of these forms possess distinct abilities that can be integrated into various combos and character builds for unique gameplay experiences.

Transformation Skills

Most of the abilities from different transformations are easy to understand, such as a warrior launching flaming arrows with a crossbow or a spiky-headed enemy using its head to smash foes. However, there are additional choices too, like a tentacle form that hurls stones at enemies from a distance, a beastly shape that breathes fire and can also cause an explosion, or a spectral monk who can provide defensive protection. The current options seem impressive and appear to match Game Science’s claim of offering numerous spells and transformations for players to try out.

Status Effects

Status effects haven’t seen too much discussion over the past few years. However, we know that forms like Guangzhi inflict burn damage on enemies with enough hits, as seen in the Tiger Vanguard boss fight, but you can add another status effect into the mix: Poison. The blade-wielding monk form seems capable of not only afflicting single targets with poison but also creating a large explosion to hit multiple foes in an area. It should be interesting to see if other statuses like freeze are included when the game launches.

New Bosses and Enemies

New discoveries in Game Science have unveiled additional bosses beyond the previously known dozens. Familiar characters can be spotted in the trailer, but there are also newcomers such as a colossal serpent-like boss, a towering oni-like entity adorned with massive horns, a muscular rodent-like creature, and a monk who can project the Destined One’s spirit from his body (possibly related to the same defensive technique). In addition, there seem to be unique adversaries, like a tiger exhibiting serpentine characteristics, causing speculation that it might be a snake demon wearing the tiger’s form.

Fox Traversal

Transformations aren’t exclusively for fighting; in fact, the Chosen One has demonstrated this by transforming into a cicada to traverse specific areas in earlier previews. The latest trailers hint at two additional possibilities – a quick-footed fox that navigates a snowy landscape and a rhino-like figure that barrels through a swampy terrain, suggesting versatility in the transformative abilities.

Bush League Stealth

Transforming also includes the element of concealment, which can prove crucial in certain situations. For instance, in one area, The Chosen One assumes the form of a snow-coated shrub to dodge the sight of a colossal enemy. Is this a separate stealth level or just a tactic within a larger battle? While it might be part of combat, as we’ve observed characters become invisible as a skill, the former is equally plausible. Regardless, this adds yet another layer to the gameplay experience.

Fishing (?)

Upon seeing this image, I had to do a second glance, as the Character-of-Destiny appears to sit peacefully on a frozen lake’s edge, possibly in meditation. However, there seems to be a fishing rod next to them, which, considering the ice is solid, might just be decorative. But imagine if it were an activity in the game! Players could embark on quests, open chests for loot drops and gather materials – so why not fishing too? It’s hard to believe, but adding such a feature would make the game even more immersive. We’ll find out soon enough, but if it turns out to be true, it would surely be a great addition.

Four Kings

One intriguing aspect of the trailer is the unveiling of the Four Celestial Regents. These four figures hold dominion over the world’s cardinal points, with Vessavana, the one armed with an umbrella, serving as their leader. It remains to be seen how they fit into the plot and if the Chosen One must confront them in battle. The trailer hints that they may not be the friendliest of characters, so we’ll have to wait and see what unfolds in the coming weeks.

Fire Ring Spell

Towards the end of the trailer, the scene becomes comical as the Chosen One is shown having tea with another character amidst a blazing circle of fire. Simultaneously, the Monkey Leader, a character encountered in gameplay last year, fails to break through this fiery barrier. Interestingly, the same magical effect that was observed during last year’s gameplay seems to be at play again here.

When you cast the spell on the floor, if the Chosen One is forced out of it due to thrown objects, the boss will be unable to step directly onto the spell and will take damage and stumble each time it attempts to do so. This can create effective zones of resistance in battles against aggressive foes when utilized strategically.

Counter Skill

It’s been apparent since the initial demonstration of the game that Black Myth: Wukong lacks a standard block or parry feature. Instead, the character evades damage by leaping over attacks or dodging them (with a flawless dodge restoring focus). Nevertheless, examining some archived footage from last year suggests players can find a skill/spell that functions as a defensive response.

During the showdown against the Macaque Leader, the Chosen One uses a spell that temporarily turns him into solid stone. When an attack is delivered, he shatters – appearing to push the boss back – and swiftly retaliates with a counterattack immediately afterward. Although it’s on a cool-down period, if executed correctly, the player suffers no damage at all, making it incredibly powerful.
