Black Myth: Wukong Expansion – 15 Things We Want to See

As a seasoned gamer with over three decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that the proposed expansion for Black Myth: Wukong sounds like a dream come true. The prospect of testing my mettle against formidable foes in a hack-and-slash action RPG is tantalizing, to say the least.

In just two weeks following its release, it’s astounding that Game Science’s game Black Myth: Wukong has already sold 18 million copies. This is a remarkable achievement, but the story doesn’t end here as an expansion is planned. What this expansion might include, when it will be released, and other details remain uncertain for now. We can only speculate and hope that our wishes come true. Here are 15 features we’d love to see in Black Myth: Wukong’s first expansion.

Map

Is it possible that the new feature will be included in an update following the game’s release? Most likely. If not, the most crucial element to introduce with the expansion should be an interactive map for all players. This map should cover both the existing game and any new areas added in the expansion. A traditional paper map that the protagonist needs to unfurl and manually mark waypoints would be perfect. We aim to make navigating the world of Black Myth: Wukong more intuitive, particularly when revisiting previous locations or uncovering hidden secrets.

Quest Tracker

Beyond the challenging boss encounters, there’s an abundance of quests to tackle. A handy guide that highlights the next step would be beneficial, without resorting to a persistent waypoint system that directs you towards the next objective. Instead, let’s preserve the excitement of exploration while making it simpler to understand what tasks are still pending. This will also facilitate easier backtracking and completing missed objectives before moving forward with the storyline.

Loadouts

In this game, it’s astonishing that we don’t have an option for custom loadouts with various armor sets, Spirit Skills, and Transformations. Imagine being able to save specific combinations as builds, allowing for quick changes from shrines when a particular setup isn’t effective against a boss or you simply want to mix things up. This feature would significantly reduce the time spent on swapping everything, especially during tough battles and subsequent resets to the original setup.

Transmog

Among the missing features that might be intriguing is the ability to switch armor appearances (transmog) without affecting your stats or current game setup. This is another feature that Game Science could potentially introduce in an update, considering the interest and if they plan on releasing any non-pay-to-win cosmetic items. If not, introducing this with the expansion would be ideal, especially as it will probably include more armor sets to collect.

New Spells

Apart from Transformations and Skills related to the Spirit, Wukong currently has eight spells with their respective enhancements. However, since this is an expansion, it’s natural to desire more. Enhancing his repertoire with additional range options would be beneficial. Considering his abilities that encompass controlling weather, summoning dragons and spirits, there are numerous possibilities for new additions (and also some upgrades for the existing spells to maintain their competitiveness).

New Stances

Additionally, it would be exciting to introduce fresh Stances for Ruyi Jingu Bang, enhancing the gameplay experience. One Stance could amplify its size for long-range, powerful attacks, catering to the fantasy of immense power associated with Wukong. Another could emphasize on innate parrying and counter-attacking at the expense of mobility and evasive maneuvers, providing a tactical approach to combat. Furthermore, enhancing the current stances with new upgrades and abilities would add depth to the player’s choices, further enriching the Wukong experience.

Parrying and Blocking on Specific Weapons

As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but imagine the thrill of incorporating additional staves, each equipped with unique parrying and blocking mechanisms. This could potentially pave the way for a fresh combat stance, and even introduce diverse armor selections, with special abilities activated upon successful parries. Whether or not Game Science decides to pursue this path is yet to be determined, but the prospect of expanded defensive maneuvers certainly excites me!

Boss Rush

As a seasoned gamer, it’s only natural that I’m eagerly anticipating the release of a boss battle mode at some point. Imagine taking on one boss after another, proving my gaming mettle and pushing my skills to the limit. Plus, there could be an option to tailor the difficulty level for those seeking an extra challenge or even the freedom to face off against any boss in any order. It’s a dream come true for gamers like me!

Boss Rematch

Instead, offering the chance to battle a specific boss once more could be quite appealing. Perhaps a player found a fight particularly exciting and wants to relive or grind for experience points (XP) and Will. Regardless, given how thrilling some fights can be, it’s natural to desire a repeat encounter.

The Arena

If you’re seeking an intense action RPG with hack-and-slash elements, it should include an arena mode. In this mode, you face endless waves of enemies and challenge yourself to last as long as possible. After every ten waves, a unique boss appears offering special rewards. Additionally, there could be a points system where these points can be redeemed for materials, armor sets, and other items. To make it more exciting, random rogue-lite modifiers can be introduced between waves, such as activating certain buffs or altering enemy attack patterns.

Bigger Zones to Explore

After exploring some of the settings in Game Science, there’s definitely room for growth beyond the initial stages. Expanding the game further doesn’t necessarily mean embracing an open-world style; instead, it could involve adding more detailed routes and secret locations, increasing puzzle complexity, and introducing a wider variety of combat situations. These changes would help create a fresh, enhanced experience compared to the original game.

More Intricate Platforming

You might consider incorporating platforming elements too, as there’s not a lot going on at present. This could open up possibilities for more intricate vertical exploration, allowing players to jump, climb, and so forth to uncover hidden areas. Draw some inspiration from the vertical design in ‘Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree’, although keep in mind that it shouldn’t be too similar, since we want to maintain authenticity. This way, players can delve deeper into the world’s mysteries.

More Difficulties and Challenge Options

All this talk of additional challenges only reinforces that Black Myth: Wukong needs more challenging difficulty options. The expansion could approach this with modifiers, allowing players to customize enemy and boss damage, add new moves for bosses, or add other debuffs like lower damage. It could also be something as simple as Sekiro’s Demon Bell, which makes everything more challenging by default and which can be disposed of if things get too intense.

Wukong’s Voice

If the storyline of the expansion aligns with the original game’s conclusion, it seems logical to provide the main character with full voice acting throughout. Given the exceptional quality of Wukong’s voiceovers in the introduction, it would be a pity not to replicate that experience. Envisioning yourself traversing fresh locations or conversing with characters and hearing his witty remarks adds an extra layer of immersion.

Less Invisible Walls

In a game like Game Science, it’s improbable that they will eliminate the concept of boundary limits entirely. However, reducing their number, especially if the expansions offer more open environments, seems like a wise decision. Even in the original version where there isn’t much to discover beyond certain points, it would be enjoyable to have greater liberty while traversing and not feel so restricted by predefined paths.
