As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I must admit that I was utterly astounded when I heard about the staggering sales figures for Black Myth: Wukong. I’ve seen games come and go, some leaving a lasting impact while others fizzle out into obscurity. But never have I witnessed a game skyrocket to such unprecedented heights so quickly!
The excitement for “Black Myth: Wukong” was running high as its release approached, and since it came out, the action RPG’s sales numbers definitely match the level of anticipation.
According to a tweet by journalist Dean Takahashi, the former head of PlayStation, Ken Kutaragi, announced during the Tokyo Game Show that the game “Black Myth: Wukong” had sold more than 20 million copies in just its first month on sale.
Game Science’s action RPG has become one of the fastest-earning games in history, eclipsing milestones even faster than titles like Hogwarts Legacy and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. For instance, it took Hogwarts Legacy almost a year to hit 22 million units sold (currently over 24 million), while Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom managed 20.28 million in more than a year. Remarkably, both these games were the top sellers of 2023.
In its debut, Black Myth: Wukong surpassed 10 million units sold globally. Just a fortnight later, this figure soared to 18 million units. Presently, Game Science is developing an expansion pack for the game as well.
Black Myth: Wukong is available on PS5 and PC.
