Black Myth: Wukong Is Fun But Has One Major Flaw, Say Players

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I’ve played my fair share of games that have left me both awestruck and frustrated. Black Myth: Wukong is no exception. The game has undeniably captured the hearts of many, with its stunning visuals and engaging combat system. However, as a fellow traveler on this digital journey, I can’t help but echo the sentiments expressed in that Reddit post about the level design.

In its initial two weeks, the action-adventure game Black Myth: Wukong has managed to sell an impressive 18 million copies across PC and PS5 platforms, placing it among the swiftly selling video games in history. The combination of these massive sales figures and positive critical reviews suggest that players are finding enjoyment within the game. A notable post on the official PS5 Reddit forum acknowledges the entertainment provided by the game but also highlights a significant flaw.

On the PlayStation 5’s Reddit forum, a user shared a post titled “Black Myth Wukong is quite enjoyable, but its level design leaves much to be desired.” While one critical post about a game on the PS5 Reddit may not seem remarkable, the post’s popularity indicates that this perspective is not uncommon.

In Chapter 3, the standard of the locations we traverse takes a significant nosedive. The Pagoda Prison, without a doubt, is my least preferred part of any game I’ve played this year. The health depletion mechanic, coupled with the necessity to evade enemies in order to ascend and halt it, simply isn’t enjoyable. What compounds the issue is that this area features ledges from which you can fall and perish, a problem exacerbated by the fact that falling from high places was impossible until now, making it all the more frustrating. Even if we were to exclude that section from Chapter 3, the similarities between the areas in that level make it extremely challenging to distinguish where you’ve been and where you haven’t explored yet.

In Chapter 4, filled with numerous tunnels, navigating proves challenging, if not more so than other parts due to its dark, labyrinthine nature. It’s hard to find landmarks in these underground passages, making it difficult to keep track of your location. To add to the confusion, the game features many invisible walls, which makes it unclear whether you’re heading in the right direction or if the destination you’re approaching will lead to a reward or simply block your progress.

The article implies that players haven’t progressed past a certain level in the game, suggesting there might be more difficulties ahead. Many commenters seem to share this viewpoint. The most frequently mentioned issue is that the game has some overlooked flaws due to the excitement it generated initially. Other comments highlight the lack of a map and too many invisible walls as areas for improvement, stating that they would have enhanced the gaming experience.

Indeed, it’s clear not everyone shares this perspective, but the high number of upvotes, along with numerous comments, indicates that this critique of the game is well-received and justified. Given that the game has predominantly been lauded, this feedback seems reasonable. As always, we welcome your thoughts; please share them in the comments below. So, do you find yourself aligned with this Reddit post’s sentiments?
