In an exclusive reveal, Letitia Wright, who’s best known for her role as Black Panther‘s sister Shuri since 2018’s “Black Panther”, recently discussed her upcoming appearance in “Avengers: Doomsday”. Over the weekend, her directorial debut, “Highway to the Moon”, premiered at the South London Film Festival. During this event, she addressed various topics including her involvement with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Back in March, Wright was among those announced for “Avengers: Doomsday” and confirmed that filming is currently taking place in London. Although she remained tight-lipped about specific details, it seems her role in the upcoming crossover will be significantly expanded compared to previous appearances.
As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, being a part of the Avengers was like stepping into a dream come true. I’ve had a taste of it before, but this time around, I got to contribute more significantly. It’s an incredible ensemble, and working alongside the Russos is always a delight. They have a fantastic team, and I can’t wait to see the final product after wrapping up filming yesterday. It’s been an absolute pleasure being a part of this great family.
The interviewer attempted to extract further information from Wright, even introducing a well-known fan speculation, but the actress remained faithful to her non-disclosure agreement. “I’m not allowed to disclose anything,” she stated. “All I can reveal is that I completed my filming yesterday, and it was fantastic! We’re really enjoying ourselves.
In the earlier Black Panther films, Shuri supported T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) behind the scenes, acting as a key figure. However, she stepped into the limelight herself in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” released in 2022. This movie also introduced Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, who will star in her own Marvel Cinematic Universe streaming series titled “Ironheart,” set to premiere soon. Shuri and Riri developed a friendship during the production of “Wakanda Forever,” but it seems that Shuri and other Wakandan characters won’t make an appearance in the upcoming show at this time.
From a movie enthusiast’s perspective, it appears that the next appearance of Shuri in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be in “Avengers: Doomsday,” scheduled for release in theaters on December 18, 2026. With such a packed lineup, I can only cross my fingers and wish for ample screen time for her character. On a brighter note, “Ironheart” is set to premiere on Disney+ on June 24th, with the previous Black Panther movies currently streaming there.
