Black Panther’s M’Baku Returns in Avengers: Doomsday – But Where’s the Rest of the Team?

M’Baku, played by Winston Duke, is joining the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. As the leader of Wakanda’s Jabari tribe in previous Marvel movies like Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, M’Baku took over as King of Wakanda following Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Though photos have surfaced of Duke with co-stars like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth, we haven’t yet caught a glimpse of M’Baku on set for the new film.

Photographer Newton Thomas Sigel posted a picture from the set of ‘Doomsday’ in Bahrain, which seems to depict Duke wearing his costume and brandishing M’Baku’s club (a traditional African weapon called a knobkerrie). Additionally, it looks like Letitia Wright, who took on the role of Shuri in ‘Wakanda Forever’, is standing beside King M’Baku in this photo.

In a surprising revelation, Hugh Jackman hints at a possible return as Wolverine alongside Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool in Avengers: Doomsday.

Duke and Wright are part of the cast for the upcoming movie “Doomsday,” which is being filmed in Bahrain right now. Recently, Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Captain America), Danny Ramirez (Joaquín Torres/Falcon), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Hannah John-Kamen (Ava Starr/Ghost), Mabel Cadena (Namora), Alex Livinalli (Attuma), and Tenoch Huerta Mejía (Namor) were spotted at an event in Cipriani Bahrain with director Joe Russo. This gathering suggests that the worlds of Wakanda and Talokan will come together again. Notably, Cadena, Livinalli, and Mejía made their appearances alongside the undersea kingdom in the movie “Wakanda Forever.

If Bahrain’s desert isn’t standing in for the fictional realms of Wakanda or Talokan, an alternative scenario could be that it represents “The Void,” a desolate and eerie location. This seemingly lifeless terrain bears a striking resemblance to the metaphysical scrapyard at the end of time, depicted in shows like Loki and Deadpool & Wolverine, although the latter series filmed its wasteland sequences in Buckinghamshire, England.

Sigel, who worked alongside directors Joe and Anthony Russo on films like “Cherry” starring Tom Holland and productions such as “Extraction” and “Citadel”, also handled the camera for “X2” in 2003 and “X-Men: Days of Future Past” in 2014. The actors Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), James Marsden (Cyclops), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), and Kelsey Grammer (Beast) are all set to reappear in their roles from the Fox “X-Men” series, as part of a larger cast that includes members from both the “Thunderbolts*” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” ensembles.

*Note: The term “Thunderbolts” is used here to represent a hypothetical group, since no official information about this team has been revealed yet.

Actors such as Downey, known for his role as Doctor Doom, Hemsworth playing Thor, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Sebastian Stan portraying Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, and Tom Hiddleston in the part of Loki are returning to their Marvel Cinematic Universe roles. Joining them are newcomers like Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova/Black Widow, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Lewis Pullman taking on Bob/Sentry, Pedro Pascal portraying Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Richards/the Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn playing Johnny Storm/Human Torch, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/the Thing, and Channing Tatum in the role of Gambit to complete the cast.

Marvel Studios has planned for “Avengers: Doomsday” to debut on December 18, 2026 in cinemas, and “Avengers: Secret Wars,” which was previously set for May 1, will now be released a year later on December 17, 2027.
