Blake Moynes has nothing but good wishes for Katie Thurston.
The wildlife manager openly discussed his personal feelings regarding his former fiancee’s breast cancer diagnosis, which she made public in February.
Blake shared during the April 10th episode of Jax Taylor’s “In the Mind of a Man” podcast that he’s been keeping up with whatever she’s discussing. He added that she had done a recent podcast, and though they aren’t in regular phone contact as exes, he did send her a lengthy video message to offer his support.
In 2021, Blake and Katie, who got engaged during the final episode of The Bachelorette season 17, admitted that their breakup wasn’t ideal, but they managed to reestablish a brief connection following the split.
After a brief wait, she eventually appeared on Bachelor in Paradise during my visit in 2023, he noted. We hadn’t spoken since our broken engagement. So, two years later, we had a chance to discuss things. We’ve stayed connected sporadically since then.
Regarding Katie, who’s 34 years old, she tied the knot with comedian Jeff Arcuri in March, just half a year after they announced their engagement. In fact, they chose to marry swiftly as Katie was about to undergo intensive treatment for her cancer.
Jeff expressed to Us Weekly, during a joint interview with Katie on March 23, that he wants to be by her side in the hospital and simply say, “My wife is here.” He added, “There’s more strength in those words. I don’t want to miss any of this time with you, even though I have to go back on tour in April.
Apart from what we’ve discussed, my dear, I yearn to be with you as often as possible, no matter where that may be.
Katie’s path has been quite a ride, filled with ups and downs. Following her announcement that her cancer advanced to stage 4, she shared some encouraging updates regarding her treatment on April 4th. She mentioned that chemo is currently not an option for her, as doctors are conducting further tests instead.
Despite not needing to subject herself to severe therapy, Katie continues to feel anxious about the implications of halting chemotherapy, as multiple doctors have given her conflicting information regarding her diagnosis and treatment options.
Katie shared, “I ought to feel enthusiastic about it, but for the past two months, I’ve received three different diagnoses. I believe that being meticulous and seeking a second opinion from another doctor have been crucial in my early cancer treatment process.

Initially, Katie Thurston, a former ‘Bachelorette’ contestant, felt uneasy when she found a tiny breast lump during summer 2024. She shared her experience on Instagram Stories in February 2025, explaining that she initially thought it might be related to her period or muscle strain from exercise.
Given that she had previously undergone the removal of a benign cyst in the same breast at age 20, she assumed this new lump was similar. However, when it persisted instead of disappearing, she decided to consult a doctor. She wrote, “I went to the doctor thinking it would be nothing, but I was mistaken.
Initially, Katie’s general practitioner recommended she visit a specialist for a breast ultrasound due to concerns. Subsequently, she underwent a mammogram. Later in her Instagram video on March 18, 2025, Katie explained that they suggested a biopsy to confirm if it was breast cancer. She recalled receiving the diagnosis on February 13, 2025, and shared that this moment was the worst feeling she had ever experienced. Despite no family history of breast cancer, she felt unprepared as a 34-year-old woman. Katie made her stage 3 diagnosis public on February 15, 2025, sharing various emotions she experienced in those two weeks, including despair, anger, sadness, denial, and eventually finding strength and purposefulness. She wrote that she cried a lot but was ready to fight. Moreover, Katie intended to document her journey to help others who might be facing similar circumstances.
Five months following her engagement to comedian Jeff Arcuri, whom she met through Instagram in the spring of 2024, Katie received her diagnosis. Originally, they had anticipated wedding plans and trying for a baby, but instead, the year was dedicated to treatment and recovery. To preserve their chances of starting a family, they froze their embryos due to concerns about the impact of cancer treatments on fertility.
In mid-March 2025, Katie shared an update on her Instagram Stories, disclosing that from 17 retrieved eggs, only 6 were successfully fertilized and made it to the blastocyst stage. After genetic testing, two embryos of grades B and C were frozen for potential use later.
Katie has also discussed the possibility of using a surrogate in the future, emphasizing that she and Jeff are open to the idea of being a childless couple. She encouraged her followers not to judge celebrities who choose surrogacy without knowing their personal circumstances.
Katie and Jeff decided to officially become a married couple on March 22, 2025, in New York, as Katie had moved across the country after months of long-distance dating. She shared with Us Weekly that their intimate ceremony took place in their apartment’s backyard, attended by their parents, an officiant friend, and their newly adopted dog, Charlie.
Katie expressed how special it was, as they were contemplating a wedding but dealing with the emotional turmoil of Jeff’s cancer treatments. One evening, Jeff proposed surprising Katie by saying he wanted to marry her the very next day, expressing his love for her and his commitment to stay by her side.
Although they plan to have a larger wedding in the future, Katie felt that Jeff’s gesture was a way of demonstrating his unwavering support and devotion, even through sickness and health. For Jeff, getting married served both an emotional and practical purpose: he wanted the ability to be by Katie’s side during her hospital stays, using the title of husband to gain more access and provide comfort.
Just a few days after Jeff and Katie exchanged their wedding vows, she announced on Instagram that a PET scan had found some small areas on her liver, indicating stage 4 cancer. However, she expressed hopefulness, stating “Stage 4 can sound quite daunting, and it is indeed,” she said in an Instagram video March 28, 2025. “But given my triple-positive status and the early detection of these liver spots, I remain optimistic about my prognosis.
After being diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer that had spread to her liver, Katie initially shared her treatment plan, which involved six rounds of chemotherapy, on her Instagram stories at the end of March 2025. However, just before she was set to start this treatment, she received a surprising update about her pathology results.
On April 4, 2025, Katie wrote on Instagram that she had all her preparations in place for chemotherapy, but the day before, she got a call revealing that her liver, breast, and lymph node samples, which were originally HER2 positive at Kaiser, had come back as HER2 negative. She was about to take her steroid for chemo preparation when she received this news. As a result, Katie mentioned that it seemed like chemotherapy was no longer an option for her.
However, despite the change in her treatment plan, Katie expressed mixed feelings. She noted that although she should be happy about avoiding chemotherapy, the frequent updates to her diagnosis had left her feeling uncertain. She believes that getting multiple opinions and thorough testing has been crucial in her cancer journey so far.
Amidst Katie’s ongoing battle against cancer, she’s learning to take each day as it comes. On her Boobie Broadcast channel, March 31, 2025, she wrote, “Sometimes I ponder, ‘What on earth is going on here?’ Yet, regardless of my feelings, this is the life I have, and I must make the most of it. Life is short, and now that I am faced with mortality, it becomes clearer that living like you’re dying is easier said than done. However, every day we are all moving closer to death – not in a morose way but as an inevitable part of life. So whether I have cancer or not, I consider myself fortunate for today. Therefore, while I experience moments of sadness or days of struggle, I aim to appreciate my time, with or without cancer.”
She also shares a significant piece of advice with her followers. On Good Morning America, Katie said, “Don’t postpone, be active, seek medical attention. This could potentially benefit you in the future.
