Blake Shelton is speaking out about his 2025 American Music Awards performance.
The former Voice contestant defended himself and his wife Gwen Stefani against criticism over their pre-recorded performances at the event held on May 26th, explaining that the decision for them not to perform live was beyond their power to influence.
In a recent post on X (previously known as Twitter), Blake shared, “I’ve just read these articles about Gwen and me pretaping our performances for the AMAs. We appeared on stage when the show requested us to. Honestly, there isn’t much more to add.
During the show, Blake sang his track “Stay Country or Die Tryin'” and Gwen mixed several of her hits like “Sweet Escape” and “Hollaback Girl”. They did this to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Gwen’s 2005 AMA victory. However, some viewers were upset because these performances were actually taped before the actual event took place.
During the AMAs last night, someone announced ‘and here’s Blake Shelton live’, but it turned out they had illuminated the stage as if he was there, without mentioning it was pre-recorded. To make it even more surprising, the same thing happened with Gwen Stefani!
I recently came across a post from someone else who attended the event, sharing a video claiming that the creative decisions left some of us a bit bewildered. They even likened it to the atmosphere of virtual award shows in 2020.
