In a unique and thrilling fashion, the Soul Society crosses paths with S.E.E.S at IGN Fan Fest. A sneak peek of the upcoming anime fighting game Bleach: Rebirth of Souls was unveiled, showcasing its vast cast of characters and graphics. The game is scheduled for release on March 21st, sparking excitement among fans of the series who eagerly await its rendition of various story arcs through intense battles and 3D sequences. Although it shares a resemblance to the anime’s classic openings, the visuals and music evoke memories of another renowned franchise and its opening cinematics: Persona.
Though the video doesn’t explicitly link to Bleach: Rebirth of Souls through its content, some viewers on YouTube and Reddit have drawn parallels due to the vibrant editing style and catchy music, which they find reminiscent of Persona 4’s opening sequence. Similarly, one can compare the opening of Bleach: Rebirth of Souls to that of Persona 3, particularly Persona 3 Reload, given their seamless editing and powerful vocal tracks.
It’s interesting to note that Bleach and Persona share a significant connection, particularly with their English voice actors. For instance, the protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki is portrayed by Johnny Yong Bosch, who also voiced the silent yet strong lead character Yu Narukami in Persona 4 and its spin-offs. Similarly, Michelle Ruff, who voices Rukia in Bleach, has played two characters from Persona: Yukari in the original Persona 3 and Prof. Kawakami in Persona 5. Additionally, Derek Stephen Prince, the voice actor for Ishida in Bleach, took on the role of the villain Takaya in the original Persona 3, but none of these actors reprised their roles for Persona 3 Reload.
The Persona series draws heavily from anime influences, featuring 2D animated cutscenes in several of their games, with the renowned Production I.G., creators of Haikyuu!!!, handling Persona 5. While the quality of anime-based games can be hit or miss, with titles like Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero contrasting sharply against Jump Force, Bleach: Rebirth of Souls seems quite promising, given that there hasn’t been a substantial Bleach video game since Bleach: Soul Resurrección in 2011 for PlayStation 3. Despite the abundance of fighting games based on Dragon Ball, Bleach fits comfortably due to its dynamic combat style and expansive character roster.
The timing for the launch of Bleach: Rebirth of Souls is convenient, given that the third cours of the anime sequel, Bleach: The Thousand-Year Blood War, concluded in late December. The final part, known as “The Calamity”, has yet to announce its release date, but it’s expected we won’t hear more about it until later in the year. As one of the Big Three (Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach), there’s much at stake for Bleach, and if it can outshine any of them, it might find success in fighting games.
The action-packed game titled “Bleach: Rebirth of Souls” will be available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on March 21st. As for the much-anticipated “Persona 6“, there is no confirmed release date yet. For all the latest news about Bleach, Persona, anime, and gaming, stay tuned right here at ComicBook!
