BLEACH Rebirth of Souls – Everything You Need to Know

Exciting, tactical confrontations lie ahead in BLEACH Rebirth of Souls, an immersive and captivating combat game featuring characters from the iconic anime series. Here’s a rundown of fifteen essential facts to familiarize yourself with before its release on March 21st, available for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

What is it?

Enthusiasts of the timeless anime series “Bleach” are eagerly waiting for the broadcast of Tite Kubo’s manga’s final story arc this year, marking a return of episodes after a ten-year hiatus in 2022 to wrap up the long-running Thousand-Year Blood War. Given that “BLEACH” celebrated its 20th anniversary last year, Bandai Namco has decided to release “BLEACH’s” first one-versus-one, fully 3D fighting game in over a decade. In “BLEACH Rebirth of Souls”, beloved characters will reveal extraordinary powers to defeat their opponents in captivating sword-based combat.

More than an anime fighter

As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to share that Katsuaki Tsuzuki, the producer of BLEACH Rebirth of Souls, has confirmed they’re infusing the unique power structures from the BLEACH series into the game characters. The mechanics of Rebirth of Souls are rich and intricate, drawing inspiration from elements like Reishi (a character’s health), Konpaku (symbolizing the soul, translating to lives in-game), and spiritual power that fuels spiritual pressure. In gameplay terms, this means gaining access to potent abilities and special skills as you build up your spiritual pressure.

Single player story mode

Due to the time gap between previous BLEACH games and Rebirth of Souls, Bandai Namco has chosen to follow the main storyline of Ichigo Kurosaki’s acquisition of his soul reaper abilities in the Substitute Soul Reaper arc up until his final battle against Sosuke Aizen during the Arrancar arc. Throughout this journey, players will gain insights into each character’s background, their encounters with one another, and the circumstances that led to their confrontations.

Secret story mode

BLEACH Rebirth of Souls additionally features a “hidden narrative” mode, where players can delve into various viewpoints on the primary story, witnessing events through different characters’ eyes. These characters’ unique perspectives will be highlighted along with special side stories, which depict their everyday lives during the gaps between main story events. This approach aims to offer depth and immersion, encouraging interest in multiple character journeys as well as the main plotline.

Multiplayer and other game modes

In Battle Mode, players can spar their combat abilities against friends, whether offline or online. The online version offers an extra edge, as it allows you to engage in intense battles with opponents from around the globe. Mission Mode, on the other hand, functions like a training ground where players can enhance their skills and perfect techniques by tackling diverse challenging scenarios.

Roster

BLEACH is admired for its diverse and captivating array of characters, and the storyline in Rebirth of Souls encompasses both the Substitute Soul Reaper arc and Arrancar arc, featuring characters from these particular storylines so far. Characters from the world of the living include Ichigo Kurosaki, Uryu Ishida, Kisuke Urahara, Yasutora Sado, and leader of the Visored Shinji Hirako. Confirmed characters from Soul Society are Rukia Kuchiki, Byakuya Kuchiki, Shunsui Kyoraku, and Head Captain Shigekuni Genryusai Yamamoto. Residents of Heuco Mundo who will make an appearance include Ulquoirra Shifar, Sosuke Aizen, and Coyote Stark. This list isn’t exhaustive; there are many more characters confirmed, as well as new ones yet to be announced.

Each character has unique abilities

At present, the character roster in BLEACH Rebirth of Souls counts close to thirty, including two versions of Ichigo Kurosaki. It’s worth mentioning that each character has a unique fighting style, which is reflected in their Zanpakutō. Essentially, they combine swordplay, hand-to-hand combat, agility moves, and spellcasting, and each character possesses distinct traits that influence factors like speed, strength, and ranged attack effectiveness.

Combat fundamentals

To emerge victorious in the game ‘Rebirth of Souls’, it’s essential to read your opponent’s strategies, and skillfully combine attacking, defending, and countering moves to amass enough strength to shatter their Konpaku. You should make use of your character’s unique move set, the Zan Ken So Ki, to gradually reduce your opponent’s Reishi, which represents their life force. Reducing an opponent’s Reishi exposes their Konpaku for annihilation. Destroy all their Konpakus and you will have defeated them. Given that this is primarily a sword-based system, although some characters possess strong hand-to-hand abilities, positioning is crucial. While engaging in combat, a Spiritual Power gauge in the lower corner of the screen gradually fills up. This power can be released in various ways.

Reverse fate

If you find yourself in a losing position during gameplay, a strategic move to consider is executing a reversal action. By skillfully coordinating a series of counterattacks, these reversals can turn the tide and grant victory from what seemed an inevitable defeat. In-game, there are three types of reversal actions, each with varying effects based on their activation timing. For example, Soul Reversal recovers energy while boosting Spiritual Power, Chain Reversal prolongs your combo streak and raises Spiritual Power, and Burst Reversal halts the opponent’s combo and restores some guard gauge. To excel and become a top player, mastering the art of reversal actions is essential.

Awakening

As a fan, I’d rephrase it like this: When your adversary’s energy reserves are depleted, my character can execute their signature one-strike finisher, the Kikon Move. This move, in simpler terms, annihilates Konpaku. The potency of the Kikon Move can be amplified when my character enters their Awakening state. This state becomes accessible once the Fighting Spirit Gauge is at its peak – a meter that fills up over time and through receiving damage. When the gauge is fully charged during Awakening, my fighter transitions into the Kikon channel state, where the real power lies.

Reawakening

Some characters can progress beyond their initial powerful Awakened form to an even stronger Reawakening phase, a secondary evolution that grants them additional power. As of now, it seems that only four characters have shown this ability: Uryu Ishida, Ulquiorra Cifer, Sosuke Aizen, and Ichigo Kurosaki when he transforms into his Bankai state.

Advanced techniques

Characters have two types of attacks: universal quick strikes and flash strikes, as well as light and strong ones. Quick strikes can be performed multiple times for a combo up to three times, while flash strikes can only be done twice. Both attacks weaken an opponent’s defense meter, and when this meter runs out, the opponent loses their ability to block. However, players must use these attacks wisely as quick strikes build Spiritual Power quickly, whereas flash strikes deplete an opponent’s Reishi more rapidly. Mastering footwork, or Hohō, and combining these attacks strategically increases the number of consecutive attacks possible. Spiritual Power, which we’ve mentioned before, can be released in various ways, with a Spirit Pressure Move causing the most damage to your enemy. Other skills, like signature moves, can be used without draining any gauge at all.

Post-release content

In the game titled “BLEACH Rebirth of Souls“, it only explores the Substitute Soul Reaper and Arrancar story arcs. Consequently, characters associated with the Fullbringers and Thousand-Year Blood War storylines are not included initially. But after the release of a season pass, Bandai Namco has announced they will prioritize the Thousand-Year Blood War arc, suggesting that figures from this narrative will be introduced later on.

For optimal performance, we suggest using an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X or Intel Core i7-12700K processor, 16GB of RAM, and a choice between an AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT or Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti graphics card.
